Hello there!

I was a member a million years ago back in the early MxO days. It's cool to see some of ya'll still gaming together.

Anywho...

I came across this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOUPbSakz9M ) and I was wondering what you guys thought about it. Could the Switch be Nintendo's first step into the VR market? If so, would this motive the Rift to innovate in ways that accommodate this new possible pool of casual VR gamers? Or will it continue to focus on being the top tier premium VR experience?

I highly doubt it. The Switch just doesn't have the hardware necessary for VR or AR (done through a headset). I would say the most likely scenario is something akin to Pokemon Go, but they don't even have a camera other than that weird sensor at the bottom of one of the controllers.

If Nintendo tried to use the Switch hardware to do VR, it would be a pretty watered down version (no positional tracking, low res screen, non-precise motion controllers, etc.).

I completely agree about the technical limitations that exist with converting the current Switch to become VR / AR ready. That 720 resolution at 30ish fps would be murder up-close.

I was shocked at the quality of the HD Rumble in the Joycons, and how it has similar linear resonant actuators to the Oculus Touch, only the LRA system in the Joycons seem to vibrate along its short axis, while many haptic feedback motors that vibrate along the long axis.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Tbone. Be well.
