It was originally a tech demo made by five guys in their spare time, but now EVE-VR - the Oculus Rift space dogfighting game that made its debut at EVE Fanfest this year - is going to be a full game called EVE Valkyrie, coming in 2014.

The Furious Angels has existed as an EVE corporation since 2009, and we also have a couple of members who play DUST, if only casually.  Depending on how Valkyrie develops, we can easily expect to expand into that game as well.  CCP is making good on their aspirations of expanding the EVE universe across multiple entertainment mediums.  From games, to books, and to a television series.  EVE's second decade is shaping up to be an exciting one!

You can keep up with the most recent EVE: Valkyrie developments by following the game on Twitter.

Apparently, it's frowned upon to dry-hump one's computer at work. :/

Taking a closer look at the trailer frame-by-frame, the ship models closely resemble that of the Vespa Caldari medium scout drone.  Drones would make sense for a dog-fighting simulator, as they are small and incredibly fast.  Drones cannot be directly piloted in EVE.  Instead they function as pets, deployed and attacking at the player's command.

If these are in fact player-driven drones, I'll be very interested to see how (or even if) CCP plans into connect them into EVE's gameplay.  The drone UI has needed an overhaul for a while.  Valkyrie could be a partial solution to that problem.

Beat me to posting this! As someone who couldn't get into EVE, this still looks absolutely mind-blowingly cool!

Valkyrie voted "Editor's Choice" and "Best of Gamescom" by Destructoid:

For as fun as the dogfighting is, the immersive feeling the Oculus Rift gives really won me over. Looking around in your cockpit -- down to see your controls, left and right to see your ship's innards -- feels cozy at first, but looking off into space out of your ship's front window makes you feel small. Letting off the thrusters and kind of coasting gives you a real sense of weightlessness -- something you won't feel with even the most powerful game console on the best television.
