TF2 Inside the Rift:

Now that dev kit Rifts are arriving, we're getting more videos, feedback, and content. In the video above, the guy puts a camera in a secondary Rift so that you can KINDA see what the game looks like.

Note: You aren't getting the stereoscopic 3d effect as it is in just one eye. Also, the motion blur is worse due to the camera.

The feedback is that the Rift delivers on all of its promises. It's extremely immersive and you feel like you are in the game. There are three main things that need improvement: resolution, screen door effect, and ghosting. The resolution and screen door effect are easy solutions. They switched to a 7" panel but kept the same resolution (up for a 5.6" panel). While this slightly increases FOV, it makes the gaps between pixels more noticeable. They plan on going back to a 5.6" panel (this will also make the device lighter). Resolution, of course, will depend on how good a screen they are able to get and still keep the thing affordable. Ghosting (the blur when you move) is a little trickier since that is a symptom of LCD screens. I believe OLEDs don't have this problem, but they are more expensive. Everything else (the tracking, which is the big thing), is working perfectly.

All of these issues should be fixed before the consumer version, which they're shooting for somewhere near the summer of 2014. Hopefully they will have added positional tracking by then and also come up with a unified controller (right now the Razer Hydra is at the forefront as an input device). That's plenty of time for you and me to save up the money and get one!

Okay I'm starting to look at the koolaide.  Not ready to drink it just yet but it looks good.

Supposed leaked projection of Oculus' business model and future features:

This was released on April 1st, but appears to actually be legit.

Okay, watched the hydra video T linked, and I was impressed by how easily he was able to pass the barrel between hands. The smoothness of the code to allow the entity to be controlled by two separate inputs in neato enough, but the ease at which the user (a first-timer, if I had to guess) passed it from hand to hand is what really blew me away.

You can't expect people to have as good of hair as me - it's just not possible.

The guy in the video said he's tried all kinds of VR setups (Project Holodeck included), and he said this is the closest he's felt to TRUE VR and a sense of immersion.

So according to the designer, if you wear this thing while you're drinking, your brain combines the already possibly nauseating experience with the alcohol and delivers you to PUKETOWN USA, POPULATION YOUR JEANS AND RUG.

Your Brain: "Like, omg, whatever the fuck you just put in me, get it out NOW!"

I'm still giggling over the possibilities.

No Occulus Rift drinking nights.  :P

I had a dream about this thing.  I dreamed I got one in the mail and I was sending Tbone all kinds of photos and video to gloat.  Really stupid stuff too, like photos of me and the Rift hanging out at a bar, laughing and having a good time.

But once I started using the damn thing I got seriously, legitimately addicted.  All of my time outside the Rift was spent thinking about being back in.  I started skipping work, and my family started to worry.

I finally found this again.  Basically, Carmack is the whole reason the Rift is seeing the light of day.  Here's the video that I feel started it all.

This is Carmack totally geeking out over headset displays, what has sucked about them and what needs to be done..  Very technical info too.  He's pretty much the reason why the rift is going to see the light of day.  Carmack discovered him and is propping him up.  18 minutes but worth it.  LOTS OF AWESOME GEEKY TECH INFO.
