It's like taking the freakin red pill. Once you know it exists, you can never go back.

$575 pledge to get an early prototype? Who wants to pool their money together and share the unit? :)

It's actually $300 to get the dev kits they are sending out. I totally thought about having a fundraiser to get one to try out "for the guild" ;)

https://www.oculusvr.com/pre-order/

If I had the money to splurge with, I'd probably pull the trigger, but consider my bank account is more likely to be in the negative by the end of the month, I decided to just try and start saving now so that I can afford the consumer version in 1-2-3 years.... :( :( :(

However I do think it's a wise investment since we are going to become an Oculus Rift guild when the consumer version comes out!!

Hey, I have that jacket.

I'll probably buy one.  Missed out on the Kickstarter.

I can see it now...

All of us sitting at our machines with these big black bricks strapped to our heads, swiveling around in our chairs talking to disembodied voices.

Maybe we have a Google video conference set up for some reason.  We can't see each other, but we know we're there.  A grid of live video images of people with these black bricks strapped to their heads, swiveling around in their chairs talking to disembodied voices.

Then someone walks in.  A spouse, a roommate, a parent.  Someone.  And they take in this scene in front of them.  They don't say anything.  What could they possibly say to make this any less weird?  So they slowly and quietly back out of the room.

I have a theory that it will be viewed by the uncoolest thing ever by anyone who has not used it and the coolest thing ever by anyone who has. The moment they try it, however, they are transformed forever! So just let your spouse try it out for a few minutes and then you'll just have to deal with her whining that she wants to use it more.

I've got some exciting news! The Oculus Rift community has created a map for those receiving a dev kit to place their area on the map if they are willing to demo it to others. Here's the map!

Today a guy marked his area in Washington DC and put a post on the forum saying he was willing to demo the Rift in Greenbelt, MD at Club125. He's #101, so I think he'll get it this month or early next month. I've already PMed him to give him my contact info, so I should be demoing the Oculus Rift soon!!!

I also told him about the guild and that there might be others of you who want to demo it. Please let me know if you're in the area and want me to forward you to him. You can also check out the map and see if anyone lives near you!

Team Fortress 2 getting ported to this Rift THIS WEEK!!! Gah, maybe I should have found a way to get a dev kit after all!

According to the map, there is someone with a rift within a few miles of Erathaol and I, but it appears to be located in a children's museum?

There's a guy about an hour and a half south of me who has one.  Not sure if I want to try it that badly.  :P

You know what we call an hour and a half drive in Texas? "Going to the store."

^This. All next week I have a 20 minute walk to the metro followed by a 45 minute metro ride followed by a 10 minute walk to the theater for my job. Then I get to do it all over again on the way home.

P.S. Looks like we may become a TF2 guild if there isn't an MMO developed for the Rift by the consumer launch! =P

People have started getting their Rifts, including the guy who is going to demo it for me in DC!! I'll be finding a date and time soon to get together with him, so again, if you're anywhere near me, let me know!
