Ranked PvP Teams

With the news that ranked warzones will allow you to queue an 8 man group in update 1.2, I think it's time we start forming teams! Like raiding, I believe our teams should be set up specifically to have the optimum group. There's a bit more flexibility with PvP than raiding, but not much. We'll see how many teams we can create and then go from there.

I figured our team names could be our Order names, but that doesn't mean that if you're in that particular Order, you're in that PvP group. We'll go ahead and start the sign ups, but my question to you is, given the four different warzone types, what's the best group setup?

Proposed Teams. I've based this off of raid schedule primarily, since people in the same raid have already been getting used to each others' playstyle and will have the same scheduling conflicts.

These groups are not set in stone yet and there could be some switching around if schedules don't work. The good thing is that there aren't lockouts like raids, so as long as schedules don't overlap (which they might), substitutes could be used from other groups.

That's great if you aren't interested in competitive ranked warzones at all. Bioware has stated that this is the "pre-season" to their ranked matches, where you will have a SET team with team names. It's not my idea. It's Bioware's.

We're going to have practices before the pre-season starts, and set nights where we participate in ranked matches. You have to have lists and sign ups to make sure you have eight people available, just like in raids. You also have to fill certain roles to make sure you are successful, just like raids.

We'll still have open PvP, regular warzone matches, and other less competitive PvP-based events if that's your cup of tea. I don't think it's fair to bash on people who want to get on a team and participate in ranked matches, though. It's like bashing people for doing Operations instead of Flashpoints. I'll join anyone for a Flashpoint, but an Operation requires a bit more organization.

On another note: You'll need to be level 50 to participate. Also make sure to list your specific class and role if you're interested in signing up. Finally, there will probably be a lot of switching around within the teams once we figure out times and days of the week.

I haven't seen how they are doing these teams, and from what I gathered from the guild summit didn't get the impression it was a "here is your set team and that is what you're stuck with".

I think the way you have it setup now is much more applicable with the info we have so far.

I think what tbone is going for here is having set teams so that there's team practice, they get to know strategy, play style, get used to each other's skill, just like any competative team even I'm sure they're going to have regular practice during preseason.

If we pug internally for ranked matches it's going to be tough to get better and more skilled within that team.  It's still possible and it'll be inevitable that we'll have to have alternates.. but I think trying for at least one core group is a good idea so we'll represent the guild better.

David was trying to clarify the 'Future of Warzones' section of the PvP presentation, but that's caused a bit more confusion; apologies. I huddled with Gabe Amatangelo about this question and got a definitive answer.

You can queue as an eight-man Operations group in Game Update 1.2, for ranked Warzones only.

In the future, whenever cross-server Warzone queuing is possible, the plan is to allow people to create teams of eight which can be named, etc.

The PvP team is aware of the importance of ranked Warzones and PvP rankings in general, hence allowing eight-man queuing. Apologies again for the confusion. We hope everyone's going to enjoy the feature!

I'd like to think we have the interest to form two or three teams, much like our raids, but we'll see  how many sign ups we have. We're expecting the same level of commitment as the raids (2 or 3 times a week you can be available and to give notice if something comes up).

Since this is PvP, the schedule may depend on peak PvP times on our server (at least until cross-server queueing is added).
