These are the only groups from which I would buy a cd.

1. RCHP

2. The Strokes

3. Blink 182

If you like weird sounding techno stuff, get Mouse on Mars. Any of their stuff. But it's not dance techno because dance techno sucks ass.

Wow, they still sell CD's with pre-recorded music.  I think 85% of my CD collection is burned.  Well, right now I've been getting away from rock and listening to more rap, like:
Twista - Kamikaze
Lloyd Banks - Hunger for More
Chingy - Jackpot
The only rock/alternative that I always listen to is Slipknot and Story of the Year.  Oh yeah, and classic rock like Zeppelin and AC/DC.

I recently picked up Hot Fuss by the Killers, and it's excellent. I guess they're from Las Vegas, but they have a definite British sound - sorta the Cure meets the Smiths with a little U2 in there somewhere. I guess they're well-known in England, but just hitting the billboards in the US.

Also, here's some of my all-time favorite albums (not including 'best of's):

Exile On Main Street, The Rolling Stones
In Through The Out Door, Led Zeppelin
Blood Sugar Sex Magic, The Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Joshua Tree, U2
Permission To Land, The Darkness
Ok Computer, Radiohead
Back In Black, AC/DC
The White Album, The Beatles
....and many more

Ok, although I said no vintage album's, I'll put up four I think everyone should have.

#4 Album of all time: Back in Black, AC/DC

#3 Album of all time: Tragic Kingdom, No Doubt

#2 Album of all time:  Paul's Boutique,  Beastie Boy's

And the greatest album ever, at least to me....

#1 Album of all time: Led Zeppelin IV/Zoso, Led Zeppelin

Those are the four most well made album's ever, in my opinion.

To make my post even freaking longer, C.D.'s that I love and you should buy. Now. Why arent you at your local music store yet?

#4: Hybrid Theory, Linkin Park: Although now they mellowed out a lot on Meteora, this was a raw clash of Metal, techno, and rap, and the best debut of the last four years to me.

#3: The Eminem Show, Eminem: I liked this far better than any of his other c.d.'s. It seemed the most thought out, with powerful lyric's reaching out to more than his ex wife and mom.

#2: To the Five Borough's, Beastie Boy's: I find it to be the most listenable of any rap album ever. I can stick this in my c.d. player and not switch it out all day. Although, Paul's Boutique and Liscense to Ill hit you a lot harder.

#1: Janes Addiction, Janes Addiction: There is no reason to not buy this c.d. It is one of the greatest album's of all time, by one of the best bnds of all time.

Yes, I did have a lot of time to burn. Hope you had fun reading that huge list.

BTW, if you didnt notice, I seriously suggest you at least "download" some of the songs of those albums. They all rock, or for the rap albums, um, well, ROCK.

I'm going to have to do favourite bands, as its just too hard to narrow down to a few albums :)

Iron Maiden (don't knock it if you haven't tried it, and no, hearing Run to the Hills doesn't count)
Metallica (Disappointed with their new stuff, but the old is just, incredible)
Thin Lizzy
Deep Purple
AC/DC
Guns n Roses
Nirvana
Foo Fighters
Ozzy/ Sabbath
Chili Peppers
Clappers
Dire Straits
The Darkness
Muse
Audioslave (Tom Morello rifs at their best, except for Rage)
Also, like Oronos said, Velvet Revlover new and upcoming band, sound awesome and have Duff and Slash from G&R. :D

I listen to a LOT ot techno, but I don't know if I would call it dance.  I like the majority of what was listed above but I couldn't really pick a fave right now...too much out there.

I retract that - Staind would rank very near if not at the top of my list.

Led Zeppelin is the best band of all time. No arguments.

This is somewhat unrelated, as we are discussing good music, but...

Billboard Top Ten:
2. Ashlee Simpson

What is the world coming too...

The world is going to preteens.

Some of the more interesting albums on the top 50 this week:

1. Now 16, Varius Artists-Who the hell still buys Now?

3. Where You Want To Be, Taking Back Sunday- Yes! Good band, that's finally getting attention. At least, getting attention except for the warp tour groupies.

5. Confessions, Usher- What the hell? Please, stop buying this people. It's sold enough. Just get someone to burn it for you.

17. Songs about jane, Maroon 5- After She Will Be loved came out, I actually went out and bought this C.d. Its a good, well um, kind of a wierd soft rock/pop album. It should be higher even though its been out for a god awful amount of time.

35. To The Five Boroughs, Beastie Boys- If you guys havent figured i out, I love the beastie boys. Buy this album, its by far the best album to come out this year.

49. Meteora, Linkin Park- Didnt this damn album come out 17 months ago? Why the hell is it still in the top 50? Its a good album for damn sure, but its just wierd its still so high up, when 50 cent finally fell off. Yes! Victory for rock music!

Thats my wrap up for this weeks sales. A couple of interesting other things are  Lloyd Banks at 9 (much better than 50, in my opinion),  The spider man 2 soundtrack at 21 still, making it one of the best selling soundtracks in quiet (did I spell that right?) a while.

Also, Franz Ferdinand is sticking it out at 46. Yay!

I was trying to pick something not named yet so I will go with Disturbed-"believe". I don't know what it is but something about their music just makes me get all pumped up.
