Dilemma I have
« on: September 29, 2011, 11:26:50 am »
So I have been doing a good bit of research among other things trying to narrow down my class I wish to be. Over most of my MMO gaming I have been mainly a high dmg dps type play style be it ranged or melee damage. Think more along the lines of a thief or rogue per-say. My current class I have been looking into has been Shadow as of late due to it seeming to be thife-ish in play style as such. Yet along with all of this I have been looking at Sentinel as well for its high sustainable dps. Along with the fact in all SW games I have duel wielded with jar kai from Kotor and beyond. Also in most role plays I have been a jar kai proficient light saber wielder. So from the history of how I have been in the past makes me look into Sentinel more for all of these reasons. Yet Sentinel seems more like a barbarian in most sense due to the system of marks they use like building fury and such. I have never played a class like this before and all I have known in a thief. SO might any one be willing to help me brake some things down. The last major MMO I played was rift so if example from that could be used to help me understand the class brake down and roles more I'd be thankful.

Sentinel - burst DPS with medium armor. You're more front lines than in the shadows. You can do a bit of offtanking, but mainly you'll be focusing in out DPSing them up close and personal.

Shadow - going the DPS route, it's more of a rogue/assassin and uses a double bladed. More squishy but uses stealth when attacking.

Smuggler - not sure which AC it is, but there's a stealth smuggler as well that is sort of a ranged assassin style.

In terms of your style, the Jedi Shadow is probably the closest, though apparently the story is more of that of a diplomat than an assassin. Story-wise, the Smuggler is probably closest to your personality. All this being said, I plan on playing the Sentinel ;)

How are shadows squishy?

Well I would go smuggler but all of the orders that I would like to be in are primarily force users >w<

Also I think what T means Rag is squishy armor wise if you don't build into tank specs.

They wear light armor, I believe, unless Shadow can have medium. If you spec into the assassin skills, you will remain squishy I assume.

I may be incorrect here but just because it sys mostly force users does not mean you wouldn't be accepted into an order. You can always pm the master of an order and ask them about it. Definitely should not let order dictate what you play.
I used to think I was perfect. However, thinking ones self perfect is conceit and conceit is a character flaw... I have no character flaws.

Well Tbone what be them yellow bars under a sentinel's health bar is that basically like a fury system?

^ well I was looking at shadow before I saw the smuggler progression vid and the gunslinger kinda called out to me but also shooting a sith in the face with a scatter rifle just makes me giggle with the joy of a thousand children. Also the cheap kick to the crotch is enjoyable to watch over and over again.

It's focus. The sentinel builds and spends focus with abilities. From what I've seen it's more fast-paced than other versions of that system.

So some skills build the focus then others expended it to do more damage?

As for the orders I was looking into they are Libertas, Aequitas , or Emeritus The 1st and 2nd choice being the higher of the three. Aequitas due to me always normally being a grey in my actions and my mind.

Re OP, I feel that describes my style of play as well.
I am looking at smuggler, and haven't deviated much.

Really, it's the force/saber use that's gonna tie you up from choosing a traditional theif/rogue model.

I'm a total frickin rock star from mars.
C'mon bro, I got tiger blood.

Well in some sense the force and such could take away from the traditional models of a thief yet I don't see the force moves that Shadows have taking away from it that much. I'm guessing its primarily cc if anything from the videos of pvp from gamercon I've seen. Plus Scoundrel doesn't seem like the type that I'm used to with the healing specs put into it I mean rift wise smuggler is the closest to what I'm used to yet from what I've seen and read consular is going to be the burst damage of a thief. Gunslinger seems like an archer with cover and scoundrel seem like it might have some identity crisis going on. ( to me at least)

I think im going to go cousular just because im usually the one everyone goes to. Also i think it matches my personality of being the judicator in ways like all of my actions could make or break a treaty ect... and i like that cuz ive always been that type of delegate person.

I wanted to mention that it seems the Skill Trees have a drastic impact on what the classes are able to accomplish. For example, it was recently posted on a developer blog that Shadows will be given the ability to act as a tank through a specialized Skill Tree:

Quote
Jedi Consular Advanced Classes

Jedi Shadow (Roles: Close - Mid Range Damage Dealing, Tanking)

Jedi Sage (Roles: Mid-Long Range Damage Dealing, Healing)

The Shadow Advanced Class now has a skill tree that allows them to fill the role of a tank effectively, using Lightsaber defense and Force powers.

That being said, I would imagine that a non-stealth Sabre, Force power Shadow is also available through the Balance Skill tree. Not sure how true that is, but I appreciate the versatility found throughout every class.
