Healers in SWTOR
« on: July 28, 2011, 04:16:50 pm »
So, I'd like to get a thread going for those that are interested in healing.  I'm planning on going full on healing Consular / Sage.

I haven't seen much out there about healing in SWTOR but found this video.  You all have been following this game much closer than I have so I was hoping some of you could shed light on this.

Here's one older video that I found:

"To the darkened skies once more and ever onward."

This video shows a lot of the healing mechanics however it's from a talking guy's perspective on how it can be improved.

Some things to note:

ANYONE can rez another player...outside of combat.  Combat rezzes are the domain of the healers.  I expect any main healer to have the ability.

I think Sage will have access to quite a few CC abilities, so expect to play a support role in general, not just healing.

From the vids healing is a bit like it was in DCUO.  You're still able to help with the damage plus you're healing and helping control adds and what not.  I think I'm going to like this.

Who else is going for main healer?  Mind you, I get a bit competitive with my heals.  Don't be mad if I make it a point to destroy everyone's total heals at the end of each RAID/Instance.  :D

Not sure how this compares to everyone experience, but my friend in the beta said they must have had the difficultly turned way way down.  He said it was much harder when he went through with a group.

If you are refering to Esseles, then yeah, it's going to be pretty easy. That flashpoint is BEFORE you pick an advanced class, therefore there are no "healers" at that stage of the game. I was able to beat it with just me and a trooper and our companions.

Reading through PvP impressions, healers in SWtOR aren't able to restore full health bars the way they simply can in earlier iterations of trinity-based games, so it seems that their healing throughput is generally reduced. So I imagine the healer will have more freedom to choose when they heal - generally speaking - because any one moment isn't as critical. But by the same token, more of your overall time might be spent healing, because if you do much else, you will not be able to keep your targets up.

Yes indeed... VERY informative.

So... do I take my smuggler down the healer route or dps route as the main way to my goal?
If I'm gonna go healer then I have to dedicate the tree direction...

So very glad they implimented a focus target. Will be very handy on my Guardian for that ability that lets me jump to someone and get the agro. Yay!
I used to think I was perfect. However, thinking ones self perfect is conceit and conceit is a character flaw... I have no character flaws.
