Rev's Art Thread
« on: June 11, 2011, 11:34:28 pm »
Noticed we had a forum spot for artwork, so figured I'd start a thread to track my progress on a new Work-In-Progress. Not entirely sure where I'm headed with it, but considering some sort of Star Wars- themed fan art.

I started modeling the head about a year ago as a self-study in topology and eventually began spending less and less time on it. Came across it while cleaning up my external drive last week and started playing with it again. I know a lot more than I did then and had a 'what was I thinking' moment to start fixing a bunch of stuff...

Then I got carried away and decided to model a body for the head... now, at this point, I feel invested in it, so I need an idea for finishing it. :P
I'm semi-happy with the base model, so I'll probably take it into Mudbox and start playing with armor/clothing ideas, but if anyone has ideas, feel free to pitch them.

Concept for some sort of armor.
Also a subtle increase in size at Saint's behest. ;)

I think he was joking. ;P

The heel of the shoes look a little odd, to me.  Are they actually a cross between high heels and boots, or is it just the way they look?

In any case, she could make a badass-looking Commando, or some kind of Republic Agent.  Or even Sith, if you're feeling a wee bit more evil :-D

Yeah, you got it. The heal is a solid piece down and then there's a bit of a thick semi-platform that it sits on at the base. Too weird?

I actually thought the boots were the coolest part of the outfit so far. Nice work man!

Not weird, they look cool.  I just can't help thinking "I really hope she's a sniper, because running in those must be a BITCH."

Question on the model herself: do you plan on texturing the model's skin more later or is she finished? I love the way she looks so far, but can't help but feel she is unfinished.

Yeah I'll be texturing once I'm finished with the model. Else if I start tweaking the model, the UVs get screwed up.  Although I think I'll likely do a Mudbox pass as well to add more fine details.  But definitely just trying to get a good base first.

awesome. the armor reminds me of Lelu from the 5th Element. Im not much help with creation im afraid. I can critique a finished work, but I dont have enough knowledge in 3D art design to help much. Most I know of is what I learned from an ex that played around in Daz and a former roommate that used 3D studio max to make items for SL.

Another quick update... started taking the armor in a slightly different direction. Still needs more hard edges, but will work those in once I'm happy with the general shape. :)

Also not sure I like the black as a secondary color.. really washes out detail. But maybe that won't be such a big deal when it's actually textured...

I liked the vest better than the breastplate. To me right now it looks like she has some sort of inflatable thing on her torso. I like the abdominal piece though.
