Wanna try Rift?
« on: January 21, 2011, 09:46:14 pm »
I've been testing out a new MMO called Rift lately. They gave me a VIP key that works 25 times... so you guys have fun if you'd like to try it out.

GXNC-6369-HQH2-NKEJ-DJKZ

Also, it's not the normal fantasy MMO you've all probably become so jaded to. I honestly said I hated it after beta 3, but changed my mind in beta 4 after playing a bit more. Truth is, it's basically all the best parts of the other fantasy mmo's I've played.

They have the generic stuff like elves, dwarves, rogues, warriors, etc... but they also have some dynamic content. The "rift" system is very cool. They have these rifts that open up randomly around the world that you can party up and close. It promoted group content like no MMO I've ever played, though you can technically solo as well. You just likely won't close a ton of rifts solo.

They -are- implimenting a new auto-group feature, but it's opt-in. Seems cool enough.

Anyway, give it a try if you want something to play until SWTOR releases.

Reply if you decide to try it out, and I'll roll a new tool with anyone who plays. Level cap is 30 in beta, and it releases on March 1.

Again, beta key is:

GXNC-6369-HQH2-NKEJ-DJKZ

My in-game name is Zix and I play on Faeblight server.

I have been in this for awhile but just cant get into it. In my opinion everything has been done before. The class system and rifts are pretty cool, but otherwise it can get really repetitive.

I refuse to play anymore games with elves in them.

All essentially my own response when I first saw it. It just feels different. It's not pure high fantasy; they end up with time machines and guns and mechanical horses and stuff. :P Lots of fun.

Either way, it's there so feel free to use the code if you'd like.

Looking at screenshots.

It looks the strength of the female armor sets must be inversely proportional to how much of the body they cover.

I saw stuff about this on Steam.  My girlfriend got a total boner for it but I was like... oh look dragons, oh look elves, oh look dwarves.

I used your key and downloaded the game.  We'll see just how fun it is come Tuesday.

I, unlike these guys, have an undying love for fantasy that is only outweighed by my burning hatred of boring MMOs.  I'll give it a chance, but it's not looking good for Rift.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the Beta starts this Tuesday afternoon. Essentially, you sign up and use the key I gave above in the account management screen, fill out your beta profile, then it will provide a "download client" button (once you get your invite) in the same area.

Although the key garantees access, it is still a manual process on the developer side to send out "batches" of invites to people with keys.

Check your mail shortly after entering the key, maybe a day later you should receive access. I'd do all this now, since the client is like 7 gigs and you'll want to get all three days in of game time, if you enjoy it.

Erathol, why do you say it's not looking good for Rift? Something specific you dislike so far? Just curious.

As for the rest of you... I urge you not to be put off by the fantasy setting. Gameplay is everything to me now days, much more than setting or graphics. This game has the gameplay I've been looking for. Specifically, it encourages grouping and has some pretty neat mechanics in the dunegons. As stated before, it's not necessarily anything never-before-seen, but it pulls a lot of the best features from other mmos together in a very polished way. It has hands-down the most stable beta I've ever played.

If you're against playing it for the simple fact it's fantasy, trust me when I say I went into it expecting failure to impress. It surprised me and really made me consider paying to play again. I hadn't anticipated doing any pay to play games until SWTOR, to be honest.

Either way, have fun if you choose to play, and if you dont' at least I tried! Hope you guys appreciate the gesture, at least. :P

For those of us who are partaking in the Tuesday-Friday Beta event, which server and faction will we be selecting?  I'm not even sure if there ARE multiple beta servers, so I have no suggestion there.
As for faction, I'd rather like to choose The Guardians.  The defiant have a really cool symbol, but as I read the fluff I just hated them more and more.  Every thing about them just sparked an illogical prejudice against them in me, but I was totally okay with the Guardians fluff.

Then again, I hardly care as it's a few-day long beta event.  Regardless of which we choose, we should all at least be on the same team.  Unless I hear otherwise from any of you, I'll be creating a Guardian Mage (Stormcaller) tomorrow.  See you in game!

EDIT: I created my Mage on the Harrow server, as it's one of the two PvP-RP servers and the only one that wasn't full.
And then the servers crashed...

I'm out of things to do, so I made an account and applied the key. Unfortunately, I guess this just gives me a "chance" to get invited, so now I have to wait and see if they send me an email.
