Some prick tried to tell me that the only reason he was nominated (and won), was because he passed away.

This same prick also tried to tell me that Robert Downey Jr's performance in Tropic Thunder should have won over Heath Ledger's performance in The Dark Knight.

I loved Downey Jr's performance in Tropic Thunder, but it didn't come anywhere CLOSE to Heath Ledger's performance in The Dark Knight.

I really hope (as I believe), that Heath won because the Academy really did praise his performance and not just because he passed away.

Heath would have won that award even if he had been alive.  I dare anyone watch Dark Knight with an open mind and tell me that that Joker performance was not disturbing, riveting and unique all at the same time.  That was one of the most realistic portrayals of a brilliant mind gone homicidally wrong, that I have ever seen.  That was a performance that can not be compared to any other.

Dead (RIP) or alive, that was a well earned Oscar.  

This may or may not be true to one extent or another, but I've heard that the medication he was taking was to help him deal with the effects of delving so deeply into the depraved mind of the character.

Bravo Mr. Ledge.
