I'm going to go to a movie based on a book tonight with a bunch of people who haven't read said book, then get drunk and yell at them for being fucking illiterate.

I had to watch this without sound due to being at work, but damn it looks sweet.

Saw Hunger Games... It was a great movie.
I did not read the books.

Jennifer Lawrence will be in my dreams for many nights.

Without giving any spoilers...

Hunger Games was...well...

Insofar as book-to-movie translations go, it's one of the best I've seen to date; ranking up there with the works of Jackson/Tolkien, Noyce/Clancy, or even Robinson/Clancy. (I liked Sum of All Fears more than Clear and Present Danger, blow me.)

Cinematically speaking, it's on the level with Twilight and Transformers. Fun and entertaining in it's visual portrayal of the characters and their individual dilemmas, but overall manages to do nothing interesting or meaningful.

Long story short: the movie ran for too damn long and did not deliver the sort of quality as a movie that normally runs that long. I was happy to see several scenes that I found emotionally or visually impactful from the book translated well to the silver screen, but just as easily disappointed to see as many scenes butchered and drained of their humanity from said transition.

The cinematography was the only thing I was really disappointed in. We had to sit int he fourth row, so the screen filled our whole fov and there were parts I had to close my eyes or look away - primarily when they did the shakky-blair-witch type stuff.
