For those who don't understand...

First two lines talking about escape velocity.
Third line determining orbit using initial conditions
Fourth line perigee radius
Fifth line eccentricity
Sixth line full equation for figuring out satellite position/velocity
Seventh line talking about drag on a body
Eighth line talking about mach number (for determining drag coefficient)
Ninth line talking about acoustic velocity
Tenth line talking about rocket propulsion by conservation of momentum (thrust)
Eleventh line talking about momentum
Last line defining Newton's second law with momentum

Clear now?
If all the world's problems were solved today, what would you have left to do tomorrow?

And this is how you create a new, very exciting MMO. Cannot wait.

Looks interesting, but I'm still hoping that my patron nerd-deity Richard Garriott delivers with his crazy Ultimate RPG idea.  If he really does bring about a New Britannia, then I'll have found my new home.

Oh wow, a console-only Halo FPS where 12 year olds can follow me around in a persistent world calling me "fag".

I'll pass...

Looks very interesting.  I'm digging the style of everything.  Mythic sci-fi mixed with post-apoc.  The concept art is beautiful.  Wish I could see some actual gameplay, though.

The FAQ gives a bit more concrete information than the quotes from the devs.  Some of it is still speculation, though.  I was skeptical when reading the article, but became more intrigued after reading the FAQ.

I'm with Sared.  The game is on my radar, but I'm not ready to jump on the hype train just yet.

Not really different from any MMO out there today, besides EVE; all depends on where you go.

MxO has a good community. SWTOR isn't bad either. Yeah, you're going to find those trolls on WoW, but you'll notice I don't play WoW.

Honestly it sounds like Planetside 2, only maybe with NPCs as well? Instead of waiting in a lobby for a match, you'll be waiting at a loading screen as you teleport on to a persistent battlefield.

In the end it's still going to have awkward, clunky auto-aim controls, an overshield, and some jackass leaving his mic on babbling about "homos".

Maybe I just don't like console FPS's...

You are not alone, my concerns are almost the same in terms of how the community/Trolls are going to be.

It doesn't look like a pleasant experience, however only time will tell.

Furious since 2006.

Lets look at these 'four pillars' that Bungie seems so intent on hammering out, shall we?

Pillar #1: A World Players Want to Be In

Post-Fallout Earth (a-fucking-gain), twist; aliens saved humanity from total extinction. This gives us a re-formatted Earth to work with as our backdrop and little need to re-invent certain cultural elements that a true sci-fi setting would call for. They want people to be playing this game for TEN, YEARS. We will see this world expanded upon, done in a way that either asks more questions or answers others; and if Bungie holds true to form, it'll be a hell of a lot more of the former than the latter to invite nerds a-plenty to speculate, co-create, and invest themselves into the Destiny mythos in order to rationalize answers. Why? Because we're nerds, and that's what we do god dammit.

Pillar #2: A Bunch of Fun Things to Do

LOLOL INSERT THEMEPARK ELEMENTS HERE

Pillar #3: Rewards Players Care About

LOLOL INSERT EVERYTHING WE KNOW ABOUT REWARD SCHEDULES AND HUMAN BEHAVIOR HERE

To quote Jason Jones directly, their goal is to keep players coming back "day after day, week after week, month after month, [and] year after year."

Pillar #4: A New Experience Every Night

This, can go both of two ways and I'm highly skeptical. They use the phrase 'emergent activity' very specifically, and I'm quoting: "you get distracted from doing the thing you meant to do when you logged on."

The optimist in me registered that descriptor as a precise evaluation of my time in Eve. Shit is happening all the time, and there's always another puddle to go splash in. That they can capture this in Destiny is something that would delight me to no end. It's an ambitious goal, and I wish them the best of luck in capturing those elusive elements.

The pessimist in me recognizes the developer buzz-word Bingo sheet for 'our own interpretation of procedural generation' and is now actively working to give me diarrhea.

Confirmation bias.  We subconsciously filter out data that doesn't support our argument.

MxO was rife with e-thugs and racists.  Viral Vendetta, as a worst-case example, were some of the most pathetic wastes of oxygen that I've ever encountered in an online setting.  I believe it was Trucidos who got himself perma-banned for publicly stating on the forums that he hoped you, Tbone, had died in Hurricane Katrina.

Most of them kept it just civil enough to avoid consequence, often hiding their trash-talk behind the veil of roleplay.  People like to remember the MxO community fondly, but it wasn't without its share of trolls.

Subb is right.  You'll find these assholes in any online community because they are human beings who have been granted some measure of anonymity.  Maybe it's more prevalent in the FPS communities, but that hasn't kept us away from a good game of TF2.

You just find more assholes in WoW because it's a bigger game.
