Just finished watching "The Matrix De-Zionized".  It's a fan-edit of the sequels in which all scenes involving Zion have been removed.

The cuts are noticeable if you know when a scene in Zion is supposed to happen.  But it's pretty much the exact same thing with or without Zion.  Even with Revolutions taking place primarily within Zion as the machines attack, it's easy to see how most of it was ultimately unnecessary.

I get it now.  I get why everyone pretends these movies never happened.  I've awakened to the truth!  Oh god, my whole life has been a lie.

Both sequels are crammed into one.  Reloaded is a bit shorter, since they even bothered to shorten some of the longer fight sequences.  Revolutions is a lot shorter, since basically half the film involves the Zion/Machines war.  All together it lasts about two hours.

The point in all of it is that by cutting out all the stuff involving Zion, the focus remains entirely on Neo's journey.
