I'll just put this here.......

http://news.discovery.com/space/are-we-living-in-a-computer-simulation-2-121216.html

The fact that this is even being investigated is mind-boggling to me.  This means we have the ability to scientifically test the reality of reality, even at a small scale.  But if we are actually living in a simulation, why would the creator (programmer?) give us the means to learn the truth?  And if we did learn the truth, could we then do anything about it?  Or would we just break down into a global riot because hey, nothing matters anyway.  But then wouldn't it stand to reason that breaking down into a global riot was just part of our programming from the beginning?  If the programmer knows what is going to happen, then why run the simulation at all?  What is stopping him from hitting Alt+F4?  DOES HE HAVE BACKUP POWER IN CASE OF A SURGE?!

Seriously, imagine if all these really smart people ran these tests, and then came out with the announcement that the evidence for us living in a simulated reality was greater than the evidence against.  What the ever-loving fuck?!  Imagine if the entire human race was suddenly paralyzed with an existential crisis.  Billions of people frozen in place, afraid to take another step because they can't know if it's them making the step, or the simulation.  The sound of their breathing suddenly becomes incredibly loud as they realize that even that is just part of the program.  Mass extinction as a result of crippling depression at the realization that everything we've ever known about everything has been a lie.

This shit is terrifying.  I may not get anything done today.  Thanks, Ash.

But that's the beauty of it; what better control is there if we think that we have the choice to find out. If there is a creator/programmer, he/she/it/they could easily doop the researchers.

Haha, this is my theory. If there ever was a "God", he was just a bored teenager playing with his "ancient universe sim" game and then got bored and got a dog or something. I don't really believe in the concept of "perfection", in that a deity is perfect and automatically makes every best decision. If anything, the deity is perfect because what he says goes, and mortals just have to suck it up.

I'd say the biggest thing I can think of against this is that if we are ever able to evolve to creating realistic simulated life, by that point in time we will have evolved enough to wipe each other out (by the time The Sims game is this realistic, the earth will be nuked to death).

But what if we could find the computer code in our nature? Oh wait, we already have:

In The Matrix Reloaded, when Neo found himself in the mountains at the Merovingian's chateau, Link told him that Morpheus and Trinity were "500 miles due south" in the middle of the city.

In The Matrix Revolutions, we see Neo breaking the sound barrier as he's racing to catch Trinity falling from a building.  He creates an audible sonic boom in his wake.

The speed of sound is 340 meters per second.  About 0.2 miles.

So assuming he's flying at at least the speed of sound in the scene in Reloaded, it would take Neo ~40 minutes to reach Morpheus and Trinity 500 miles away.

...And the entire chateau fight and the subsequent car chase happened simply because Persephone deliberately allowed one of the Lupines to escape.

Please stop posting those images. The thread was spammed with it and every time I came here, I had to scroll through a page of it. I got sick of it, and I'm sure other people did too. Save it for 4chan.
