So I hear NYPD's finest cleared out the idiots in that occupy camps. How does sitting around, disrupting peoples lives around the area really help your cause? Friggin' hippies.

The following isn't a defense of the OWS crowd, but more of a defense of civil disobedience and protest in general:

The goal of a protest is to draw attention and raise awareness of your cause.  You can't do that by not getting in the way.  In that regard, the OWS crowd have certainly succeeded.

That being said, if a protest is causing a disturbance to the public, the protesters should expect the authorities to take action.

I am official against the Occupy movement. We had protestors "Occupy" the north avenue bridge causing all traffic to come to a halt. The thing is that North avenue is in a poor neighborhood so they probably did for damage than good preventing fellow 99%ers from making it to work, etc.
