So, I got this e-mail from my Mom at about 4pm my time. I was about to get started writing an essay for my history class. The first line starts out like this:

"Hi! just a heads up I am in the hospital with a blood clot in my left clavicle."


Needless to say, I freaked out. I read through the rest of the e-mail for more details which didn't really make me feel much better, even though she told me not to be worried. I was just freaked out a little because she's probably not going to get out until Wednesday. I had an e-mail conversation with her and it kind of made me feel better. It was bad, though, because they don't allow Skype at the hospital that she's at, and I really wanted to talk with her through something other than e-mail. Eventually, I just decided to put some money on my Skype account so that I could call her from my computer. She had terrible cell phone reception, and the call kept dropping every three minutes or so. But, I got to talk to her and it made me feel better.

Overall, it's just shitty that I have to be all the way on the other side of the world while this is happening. It wouldn't be nearly as bad if I were home. I really, really can't wait to be home right now, now more than ever.

Ana: That sucks man, really does. She's in the right place and everything will be fine.

I watched all the videos and have mixed feelings. Yes it's bloody horrible that civvies were killed, but I even thought they were armed (until told otherwise) - plus it's war. What did annoy me was when they opened fire on the truck that wastrying to help the guy. He had been his by a 30mm round - survival is slim! Also, you can plainly see that they're wearing tunics/scrubs which is bordering on War Crimes.

Also, I felt truly horrified when I was listening to the Soldier's experiences in Iraq and how he was told to man up.

Furthermore, got told recently that I have a Royal Marine Commando scholarship waiting for me if I wish to train as a medic. On the downside I have to give 8 years of servitude. Exciting prospect/avenue of life but I really couldn't hack being in the military for 8 years (10 with extra training).

Subb, realize that there is a very different reality for commissioned officers versus enlisted men or warrant officers.

That video just reinforces my belief that most fuck ups on behalf of the military happen because an officer made decisions that ignored or misinterpreted the bigger picture.

Ana: Kinda know how you feel. This year my dog died and my brother had a baby, and I wasn't home for either of those things.

Also, forgot it was meeting night because I had such a busy day. Wasn't sure if I was gonna be around tonight, but looks like I will be.
