It's a benefit, a perk. Matching contributions are optional for a company to provide, so I'm fairly sure there's nothing you can do. Really shitty on their part, but not illegal. I would support quitting or boycott.

Shouldn't you have a contract for a 401k? Something that binds them to it?

you're legally protected to keep the money you put in, obviously, but company matching is strictly a perk that each company reevaluates each and every year. The majority of companies do not offer this, so if you get matching (especially a full promised match) you're lucky. The only thing that may smell in this situation is the reasoning for not providing it.

I'm very lucky to be in a company that had provided a full match every year for the last thirteen years, but this last year we were very close to breaking that streak.

Like Tbone, I thought 401k matching was something contractual.  I hadn't considered that it was optional on the part of the employer.  Thanks for the insight, Fuse.

It's a shitty situation.  Many people are pissed.  :\

meh, you're young, 401k's are overrated unless the company is 100% vested in you (typically 5 years for a matching asset program, even then, better to just do enough to max out the company contributions). you're better off putting you're money in a roth ira (and hopefully maxing you're contributions).
If all the world's problems were solved today, what would you have left to do tomorrow?

Still, I contribute a decent amount, and the matched contribution would have been a nice chunk of change if my employers weren't more concerned with their annual bonuses.

And the $12 profit sharing check was just salt in the wound.

Does anyone have a file with multiple versions of our angel symbol? I'm trying to alter a few things on my phone, but with a blue theme the first one I tried doesn't really stand out enough.

Actually, I set it to white and it looks pretty good. Turns red when removing items.

I'm bringing my gaming rig home for the summer today. I'm getting ready to dismantle it. :(

I'll be without a gaming computer for two weeks, all in an effort to study more.
