Apple: iPhones cracked from outside pressure

Denying reports from Europe that faulty batteries caused "explosive" iPhones, Apple Friday said that cracked devices turned in by French customers had damage done from an outside force.

Bloomberg reports that an Apple spokesperson said that pressure was applied to the phones to make them crack in all cases investigated. Battery overheating reportedly did not cause any of the issues.

Earlier this month, Apple began an investigation into the allegations of explosive iPhones. That review began after the European Union's consumer safety division took notice of various complaints and media reports.

The incidents gained notoriety after a British family sought a refund for an iPod touch that they claimed exploded after it was dropped. Apple reportedly responded by asking the company to keep the terms of any agreement confidential.

What a relief! Instead of batteries that could overheat in a hot car or hot office--which is somewhat expect-able, no, it will blow up at random if you drop it or apply pressure!

Sweet it's like it's own self-destruct mode! Or rather yet a land mine for enemy tanks or unsuspecting enemies!

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's "off with her head!"
Remember what the dormouse said
FEED YOUR HEAD

Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Nah, I would miss features like tethering via USB, Bluetooth, and WiFi. The copy paste feature, MMS messages, VoIP over 3G, video steaming over 3G. I don't have to worry about Apple approved apps, I can just browse the web and find just about any app I need. I wouldn't be able to use the powerful Visual Studio tool to make application design easy. And I'd be slave to the unreliable and patchy AT&T network.

I don't think I could trade that all away for a little bit faster graphics processor, a chick UI, to be part of the fad, and to have Steve Jobs telling me what I can and cannot do on my phone.

Don't believe everything you think.

Yeah....any network that tries to showcase badass phones, but puts restrictions on them (I.e. AT&T and Verizon) so that if you want a ringtone from a certain band you have to buy it off them and not make it yourself can go straight to hell.  Loving T-Mobile atm.  All their apps are FREE, unlike AT&T...fucking dirt bags.

I'm hesitant to defend the iPhone because it's definitely not the super-dee-duperest bestest phone on the market.  But I still don't see why people are so quick to shoot it down.  It may not be the best phone, but it's not the worst either.

And I don't know what you're talking about Lith.  The iPhone has Bluetooth, WiFi, copy/paste, MMS (on seemingly every network except AT&T), and VoiP over 3G (via Skype).  I will agree with you on AT&T's shitty service, but that's not a fault of the iPhone.

The only thing I don't like about the iPhone is that I pretty much need to void its warranty if I want it to function like 99% of the phones on the market.  Apple really does have a bug up their ass about how people use their products.  But what the iPhone does do right out of the box, it does well.  Any features it lacks, I've been perfectly able to live without.

I'm talking about tethering via Bluetooth and creating a WiFi access point via 3G. Copy/paste and MMS did not ship out of the box. They were upgrades.

And I'm pretty sure they denied the Skype app until it was redesign to only work over WiFi no 3G. This was casually blamed on AT&T of course. http://government.zdnet.com/?p=5279

Also there was a vulnerability where a single text character in an SMS would crash the phone. It was quietly patched. And security guru's say among smartphones, the iPhone does not run anywhere near the most secure. http://www.forbes.com/2007/06/19/iphone-security-risk-tech-security-cx_ag_0619iphonesecurity.html

If I remember reading correctly the phone has no task management system? Meaning program cannot run in the background. Or rather they won't let you run apps in the background! This is why the phone lacks many true google mobile apps. They become web apps or some shit. http://features.techworld.com/mobile-wireless/4024/why-wont-apple-let-new-iphone-apps-run-in-the-background/

The phone is a massive fad because of some innovative UI and touch features. Yippie Do Da.

And as Manic pointed out you need to void your warranty to do anything worthwhile.

Don't believe everything you think.
