On a slightly related note, I think guys need to start making a bit more of an effort in terms of chivalry.

It pisses me off when I open the car door for my girlfriend, and the guy who is parked right next to me sees me do this, and still doesn't bother to do the same for his girlfriend.  What happened to the days when being a gentleman wasn't synonymous with pussy-whipped?

Gotta agree with T on this.  You can't blame the lack of chivarly only on men.  Women's attitudes have changed drastically over the decades.  Some women still appreciate this, while others get angry when you try to show a bit of chivarly and see it as a gesture indicating that they cannot do for themselves.

I am not against chivalry at all.  I have actually had this conversation with a few women.  I've tried to explain to them that chivalrous gestures were not intended to symobolize a woman's weakness, rather they were gestures of adoration, endearment and service on the part of the man.    ....But you can't tell women shit these days, can you.    I've seen men berated by women (not men) for trying to be chivalrous.  In that respect, women have killed chivarly.

Compromise is always a great option. On dates and special evenings it's a wonderful treat to feel like a lady.... *respected* but if it is done all the time it becomes less special. At work my team leader always insists on opening the doors for us ladies and sometimes it gets a little annoying. Sometimes it's good to be treated like an equal and sometimes it's good to be treated special. It's all about BALANCE

Then again, it all depends on the girl. I knew a girl once who apparently did not have the requisite training to turn a knob on her own. She'd sit there and wait, sometimes for five mins at a time, for her guy to open the door while he carried the groceries or the dog or whatever from the car. Honestly I don't know HOW she got in and out when she was alone!
