I just want to say...

Fuck you, Microsoft.

I finally gave in and purchased your Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade pack.  I made the decision after reading the box.  It told me I can upgrade from Windows XP Professional to Windows Vista Ultimate without losing any of my files.  So I said, "Okay, cool.  My computer is more than capable of handling Vista."  So I get home, and read through the manual which tells me if I want to upgrade to the 64-bit version of Vista, to insert the 64-bit Vista DVD.

Simple enough.

Until the error pops up telling me I can't "upgrade" to the 64-bit version of Vista, and that I'll have to do a "clean install".  So much for keeping all my files.

So now here I have sat for the past couple hours, backing up anything of importance, and transferring it to my laptop...

So again I say, "Fuck you, Microsoft."

Thats not a microsoft Issue its a transfer from a 32 bit operating system to a 64 bit one... not an easy job to do in an update.  So, yeah you will have to do a clean install to do that.  If you had a copy of the 64 bit version of XP pro you shouldn't have had any trouble.

Well... I backed everything up, and restarted the computer to start the "custom" install.  As soon as I got to the step where you pick the partition you want to install to.  So I picked the partition and clicked Next.

What pops up?  A message telling me that I have an older version of Windows installed, and that all my old files will be moved to a new folder.

You bastards.  Now I really hate you.  After all that?  All my time wasted moving folders?

Bastards...

Its always best to do a clean install.  This update from one version to a completely different one is a fable.

What I'm loving now is that Vista tells me I can't run Microsoft files from Microsoft's website because they aren't authorized...

Wow.  The "Special" Award goes to Mr. Bill Gates, and his "special" team of programmers.  Congratulations.
