Guitar Hero 3 is fucking badass.  I love this game. :x

Now I need to find time to play Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Need For Speed: ProStreet (PS3), and Call of Duty 4 (PC).

Holy. Shit.

This has got to be the most amazing innovation I have ever seen in my life!  I want games for this sort of gameplay, and I want them NOW!

Enjoy. :)

My brother showed this to me today. I didn't even realize it had been posted about here. My brother has a Wii, so I set out to recreate this myself.

I downloaded the software, configured my bluetooth adapter to work with the wii remote, and taped the sensor bar to a hat and I was ready to go.

At first I loaded the program and was severely disappointed. The familiar targets popped up, and I was happy to see that it was responding to my head motions, but I didn't see the eye-popping 3-D that was in the video. I spent a good minute or so trying to calibrate it differently or line it up perfectly so that it would suddenly pop.

For some reason I decided to close one eye. I did it briefly but all the sudden the targets popped out of the screen. I quickly closed one eye again and began to move my head around. Sure enough, here was the effect I was looking for. It looked great, and I was very happy to have done the experiment using the things I already had.

Then it hit me. The reason why the illusion worked on the video was because the camera is only one source of sight. Our mind creats depth by combining the vision of two eyes, but with only one source, our mind will try to recreate the depth using context clues such as the response to motion, etc.

The problem with turning this technology into a video game is that each game will have to come with an eye patch or use 3D vision with the 3D glasses we're all used to.

In conclusion, the optical illusion created in the video was more caused by the camera than the motion technology. I'm sure one day they'll come up with a solution and then we'll get some really awesome games, but this wasn't quite the breakthrough I thought it was when I watched the video.

Well I hope the next generation of gaming systems has something similar integrated.  The wii took a nice step forward, with coming up with a revolutionary design. I'm sure Sony and Microsoft both will follow suit.

Well, if you think about his idea with the safety goggles and the infared lights, 3D vision isn't that far off.  Simply attach the infared lights to a pair of 3D vision goggles and Wa-lah!

That does suck, though.  I didn't even think about that.  Still neat. :D

I've said this many times before, and I'm going to keep saying it because I know there will come a day when someone believes me:

Tina Fey is not hot.

That is all.
