As someone married to a person who needed to strike in order to get a decent result to a long-running dispute, I think you're talking complete and utter shit.

Try working in a job where you provide a service to the public and where you find your retirements plans might be fucked for the sake of the officials saving some money in the short term, and you might reconsider your position on strike action.  When people strike they don't get paid, and they get a lot of stress in the meantime.  It's not a decision taken lightly and it places a great deal of strain on the entire family of the people involved.  Nobody wants to deprive anyone of a valuable service, but nor do they want to slit their own throats.

I 100% back the police in their action, same as I did the firefighters and same as I would anyone who is being fucked over while helping ungrateful members of the public - especially when those people have devoted their entire careers to it, rather than climbing a corporate ladder to line their own pockets.  The police have not only been given a pay increase well below the rate of inflation and below the national average, they have been told it won't be backdated.  That means they're getting approximately 1.9% against an inflation rate of 3% on an already shit wage.

For many officers, it's not as simple as going into an agency and finding something else.

Got another Ruby snowflake, who wants a red coat or for females a red winter shirt?

Mr destyn; firstly I did not attack you (it was an opinion as to the legality of strikes and not the moral rights and wrongs behind it) and do not feel it merited an attack on me. I do not think that we should resort to name calling in a public forum. It was said tongue in cheek and with obvious self depreciation (reference to tory boy).

Secondly, the fact that you are married to someone who strikes or who needed to strike in order to prove a point does not make you any better qualified to determine whether or not strikes should be made illegal or not or whether or not people can support or go against them.

A schoolfriend of mine was recently killed, in Hertfordshire, whilst carrying out his duties as a fireman, he always impressed me by the fact that he was not doing it for the money, but for the respect. I have the upmost respect for public servants I just do not see that tax payers should be put in danger for something over which they have no control. Ironically, given the context that this discussion has arisen on boards about a game of choice this whole point again comes down to choice.

No-one is forced to strike and no-one is forced to work at anything other than what they do. Circumstances might go against people having freedom to move jobs however, those circumstances are self imposed, not thrust on someone out of the blue.

I'd be up for farming these tonight and this weekend if we can get a group going.  I can't recall for the life of me how to take out those snow simulacrums.  They're immune to melee attacks, correct?  I can load up Master Shadow and act as bait.  :)

The Writers' Strike here in America is crap.  The Studios need to quit being greedy assholes and give compensation to the writers for their material.  Not allowing the writers a portion of all the profit from DVD/Online sales of material they had the biggest hand in making is ridiculous.  Without the writers, there aren't shows.  Give them the money they deserve, and let me get back to watching new episodes of House!

Wankers.

I was thinking of new episodes of Heroes.. it seems they ended the season REALLLLLLY fast and left it hanging more than the previous season... Writers strike have a hand in this? I think so.
