I always thought the easiest job in the world would be to be the guy in a rap group that every once in a while came in on the 1st or 4th beat of a verse or chorus and just blurted out a random word, like saying hello... How many time do you see these guys hang in the back fo the stage with a towel in their hand as though they're ACTUALLY working up a sweat?! Then they come up and when you think "oh, lyricist changeup. i can't wait to hear what this G dog has to tell me about HIS bitches and hos" all you get is "yeah!", "uh-huh, uh-huh", "let me hear ya say...", "whooooaaa", "hey, hey, hey", "put your hands up!" etc... and then they mosey on back to right in front of the drumset/turntables, take a drink, wipe off their perspiration from the grueling moments of lyrical effort and wait for the chorus to finish so they can start again.
Then they go back to the tourbus, fuck the previously mentioned bitches and hos and claim to be the singer of <insert>

Fuck these guys. I want that job.

I understand that rap might not be YOUR thing, but metal is really not my thing either.  What is on display with a rapper is not so much the artists musical skill as his/her lyrical skill.

If you can compose even one verse with creative content and perform it in an engaging manner over a musical track, I'll give you much props.  writing ood rap is not as easy as it looks.  And its completely unfair to judge all of one genre based on the worst examples out there.

I could just as easily do the same with ANY type of music.  For example, I have never taken a guitar lesson in my life, but I have been around all types of music all my life.  I was hanging with a band that played harder rock and picked up one of their guitars for fun.  I began strumming and moving my fingers doing my best impression of a hard rocker and surprisingly, it didn't sound much worse than some of the crappiest metal music I've heard out there that people actually listen to.  Since then, i haven't really been impressed with metal artists.  However, there are some metal songs that I like because some of it is actually good.

However, also in fairness, most of the rap you hear on the radio these days IS crap.  But that is hardly a representation of the entire genre.

We're Angels, not saints.

How long am I blacklisted?

I like all types of music. To prove this I can get you a picture of one my my CD folder with Chronic 2001, Slipknot, and Sixpence None the Richer right next to eachother. I've played trumpet, guitar, piano, and DJed at different points in my life covering rock, jazz, classical, pop, R&B, punk, metal, and everything in between...

All music has the potential to be good.

Hey, I jsut realized our Randomness thread just reached 200 pages.

I think we should all take a deep hard look at ourselves and ask... "is Fuse the only one who really deserves the spam title? Aren't we all a little guilty of samming?" I think if you are honest with yourself you will see the answer is clear.

My name is Fuse and I approved this message.

I think pop/hip-hop/rap get too much credit. See, jazz, folk, rock, metal (although metal's wank 50% of the time) have to have talent to play all the instruments; Rap artisits etc. only have to be able to rap or sing and then they createthe drums on the studio guitars in the studio using a program, ot real people.

That's my rant of the day :D

GOOD pop, hip-hop and rap takes skill and creativity.  Just like metal, not all of it is good, and definately not all of it is bad.  Trust me, I listen to ALL types of music and there is alot of jazz, folk, rock and metal that just completely sucks ass and has people on said instruments that should never be allowed near a musical device of any sort.

Its about creativity of all kinds, not just on "musical" instruments.

Lets not be so narrow minded.

I agree, maybe I wasn't making myself clear enough, yes some of it can be good (Hell, I like Take that ffs! :p) But none of the techies or the people who actualyl write or make the music get ANY credit. I don't think Britney writes her songs, well not all of them anyways. I know rock, jazz and metal bands can suck ass, but I get really annoyed when people like 50 cent (sorry if anyone likes him!) gets so much credit.... all he does is fuckin' talk fast >.<

As you said Pheinyx, commercial rap is shit, I like some of the underground rappers :)

Britney wrote 9 of the 13 songs on In The Zone and 5 out of 13 on Britney. She only co-wrote 2 on Blackout, though, but was the Executive Producer (she hasn't been that for any of her previous efforts).

Plus, it isn't like every song-writer is a good singer; why should every singer be a good song-writer?

...And we will strike down upon those of Darkness, with great vengeance and Furious Anger, those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.

I don't think she would have had much success I dont think if she didn't have help :/ Led Zepplin wrote most of their songs and they're still famous. Black Sabbath wrote most of theirs too (my friends guitar teacher actually wrote one of their songs).

A good song has good lyrics.
