I would always buy the latest and greatest Apple product about a month before they would come out with a better, cheaper model.  Pissed me off to no end.  And I damn near ended up in the same boat as your brother this time around.

But I've been using the "iLamp" iMac for about five years now.  700 mhz G4 PPC with 512 mb of memory.  I'm dying for an upgrade.
