Interesting little project -- submerging your computer in oil.

My initial response was "Welcome to last year." But the change to mineral oil has me reading...Could this be an actual practical implementation of an oil cooled computer?

I didn't much look into it but if you cool a pc with oil you don't need fans and a heatsink right? heh

So... I must have missed the whole oil cooling phase of computer modding...

Can anyone explain what the big deal is?  And how the oil doesn't short the electronics? Maybe lead me to a FAQ for oil-cooling?

That's nuts.  I want to learn as much as I can about it.  Maybe I'll do that for my new system.

EDIT: Oh, duh....  Non-conductive liquids.  I'm an idiot.

Also a higher specific heat capacity than air (little more than 2x I believe) which translates into being able to absorb more heat.
