The Dogma of the Furious Angels
« on: July 27, 2010, 08:47:32 pm »
The Furious Angels believed that to combat the growing tide of darkness, another approach was needed; so a group of Jedi consisting of the most powerful Guardians, Sentinels and Consulars decided to tread a thin line, skirting between the light and dark side but never fully falling. “To serve the light, we fight in the darkness”

I saw this in the FA in SW:TOR thread and it got me thinking, and researching to draw it closer into the cannon.

This describes us perfectly --> http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Gray_Jedi

Goes into detail of the Grey Jedi ideology and their concept of the force http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Potentium

The real world source for the Potentium, has a section on celestial Hierarchies that we can draw inspiration from for our ranks. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoplatonism

Yeah, but I don't know if playing a grey jedi in game would be interesting. Worth investigating...

Well the whole idea of a gray Jedi is it is a Jedi whom walks the line of the dark side but does not fall to the dark side. I think it fits well with our mythos. Also some of the greatest Jedi were thought to be gray Jedi again it ties in well with the angel myth. I can definitely see several ways of tying this in.

I agree with Tbone. If we could walk the line between Jedi and Sith that would be fantastic since the moral code and philosophy of the Potentium are more in line with us, but sadly that would be a real bitch to program into a game, let alone a MMORPG with factions, and would be akin to having human horde or orc alliance in WOW. Come to think about it... that would be kinda awesome.....

It's been confirmed that you can be dark side as a Republican (like in the real world) so I'd like to wager that skirting between the two is also available.

huh, that's weird. The SWTOR panel at Comic-con said no faction swapping.

Yeah, if you listen to them (or watch the video), they say that you can be light or dark side but you cannot faction swap. The examples they gave was a light sided sith fighting the corruption of the Empire from within and a Jedi using underworld connections to bribe, corrupt etc.

Ah, sweet. Haven't had the time to listen to the actual recording yet, but have been reading the updates from DH as frequently as possible.

Same...

I actualy love the idea of being Grays. Really does allow us freedom to explore our own lore without being reliant on strict Jedi beleifs. I have also always been kind of a fringe-from-control sort of personality, so naturally I'm attracted to the idea of walking the line.

I think a lot of us are drawn to the mystique of the Gray Jedi, but even wookiepedia only has two people listed as being them (also a group, but they're kinda outside of it all....) especially since the draw of the dark side of the force is hard to keep control of without strict regimen.
Given that the group is from one of the thousand moons of Iego, we might have Grey ideals, but would be closer to the truthseers from the wookiepedia article.

I think if we identify ourselves as grey, we almost categorize ourselves too much. People who want to play as a "true" Jedi won't be drawn to us.

The way I was thinking about it was more like how being a gray jedi only a select few can do because it takes so much will not to fall to the darkside could tie in with the myths of the angels being very strong with the force so most of these grays turn out to be Angels not that every Angel is a gray. Sry for the terrible grammar. lol

Ven, I think that line of thinking works much better than the other way around.  Instead of saying "the Furious Angels are Grey Jedi" we can instead say "many Grey Jedi are, in fact, Furious Angels."

I'm also with Tbone in that I dislike categorizing ourselves as Grey Jedi.  I think we should only identify ourselves as ourselves, keeping our unique flavor and ideals as separate as possible from any other previously established canonical group.
Isn't that why we chose the Angels from the moons of Iego in the first place, so that we have tons of leeway to do our own thing while still playing into the Star Wars universe?

When I wrote 'To serve the Light, we fight in the darkness' I didn't wholeheartedly mean that we were Grey. It basically shows that we are exiled from others, misunderstood, hated, revered and feared... hence why we fight in the darkness - we're in the shadows. I think FA is a sect that calls to warriors from all backgrounds so our methods are our own e.g. Broin may blast a shit load of bad guys with the Force and preach his wisdom to the younger members, but my character in a roleplaying perspective is invisible to the Force so he's an Outcast from the Jedi Order since the others believed him Fallen. It also made him the most suitable spy to place in Dromund Kaas where he delved too deep into his role so would use tactics other Jedi would find morally wrong i.e. taking loved ones hostage. If the game permits me, I'm going to be running my Jedi Knight as a stealthy fighter.
