Last weekend I had my first semi-professional photo shoot with my friends Amanda and Kate.  I asked Amanda if she'd be willing to do some shots for me so I could get some practice in doing portraits and she agreed.  Kate, who works at various theaters around the Salt Lake valley, offered to do hair and makeup.  

This shot was entirely Kate's idea, and Amanda was a real trooper about posing topless.  There are other shots like this, but this is the only one worth presenting at the moment.  This took a bit of post-processing because of my cheap-o lighting setup.

This may sound pervy, but I've been wanting to do a nude/semi-nude photo shoot for a long time. Actually, being a cinematographer, I've been wanting to get experience with love scenes. Again, there's nothing perverted in my intentions. I just want to see if I can do it and what I can bring to the table stylistically.

This would have been great back in the MxO days! She could have had our logo as a tattoo or something. That'd be a pretty kickass graphic!

I was actually a little nervous doing this.  When Kate suggested the topless shots, I didn't think Amanda would actually go for it.  I was really stressing about keeping Amanda comfortable.

When we finally got set up and started shooting, I noticed I was more concerned about lighting and composition than the fact that I had a half-naked woman in front of me.  Whatever tension in the room was gone once Amanda saw I was treating it professionally.

I think it's all in what your intentions are, as you said.  If you want it to look tasteful, then that will show through in the final product.

Really proud of this one.  I had this idea to see some EVE battleships descending on Salt Lake City, and I knew the perfect vantage point to get the shot.  So I took my camera on a hike and spent the rest of the afternoon in photoshop.
