30 fps on last year's games  = this is a laptop with less than a year before this becomes crap for games.  They failed with making the CPU the bottleneck in this machine.

I'm ordering mine in the week to come. My build will be along the lines of:

Intel® Coreâ„¢ i7 640UM (4M Cache, 1.20 GHz)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
4096MB 800MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x2048]
250GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive
Optical Drive : 8X DVD+/-RW Drive
Dell Wireless 1520 Half Mini Card (802.11n)
(11.6") WideHD 1366x768 (720p) LCD
8-cell 63Whr Lithium Ion battery
1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 335M

Anyone played on the i7 version yet? Apparently it's supposed to be A LOT better than the original.

Those are sweet rigs guys. Mind letting us know about how much money those will set you back? I want to build one at the beginning of next year so it would help to give me a starting point.

Dude, you can always go to the dell site and set a config you're comfortable with.

They can run anywhere from $799-$1200ish. It just depends on config. I also can't stress enough..

ALWAYS call them if you wish to make a purchase. They LOVE when people just go and buy on the site because they don't question the price. Their profit margin is ridiculous and can be lowered quite a bit if you're charismatic enough and willing to spend some time haggling. Even if you don't get a lowered price, you can talk them into giving free express shipping or maybe a backpack / other accessories thrown in there.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/456885-aw-dell-ordering-advice-how-save.html

There's a link to a forum thread explaining some ways you can save money. I visit that forum occasionally since it's one, if not, the best place to get info on laptops. It's definitely got a lot of good reads if you're looking for some dirt on a specific laptop.

Subb, the C2D CPU was apparently the weakest part of the system. Apparently all the other parts of the system end up waiting for the CPU causing the whole system to bottleneck compared to it's i7 counterpart. They then decided to offer the i7 for those that wanted to spend a few more for the extra power with already amazing portability. Does this mean it's a bad system?

Nope, it just depends on what gaming you're planning on doing with it.

It's all about the balance between power, portability, and price.

Yeah, I read that the C2D was pants and that's why I waited until the i7 came out. I've also heard that to unlock the Alienware's true potential you need to overclock it... which I'd love to do, but I have NO idea how to do so. I know you need to go onto the BIOS but I have no clue what to do after that. If anyone could give me pointers or a guide via the web, I'd love you long time. I did google a few, but I trust you guys more than the randomers on the net (plus, literally half of the guides were different to one another...)

Also Arch, do you know of any other Laptops that rival the M11x or are even better? Thing is though, I have student discount/EEP with Dell...

I'm sure there are some that rival it but i don't know of any off the top of my head to be honest. I'm usually more into the 15" laptops.  As for OCing, The only thing i know is that it should just be an option in the bios. Most people that DO OC apparently run anywhere between 133- 166. That's what i've read anyway.

I'd say just to fiddle with it and just slowly increase it to something you're comfortable your laptop can handle. Test it out and see if the gains are worth it since no two CPUs (Or any peice of hardware for that matter) are exactly the same.

In most cases the fact that you're using an i7 would help a lot more compared to a C2D, period.

Subb. I have played quite a few games without having to overclock my i7 m11x. That being said if you want to just press "setup" during start up and there are some easy to follow processor overclock steps.
