Gaming Night!
« on: September 24, 2009, 11:08:15 am »
I miss you guys!

So, I'm proposing one night next week we all try to make an effort and get online and into Teamspeak to play some Team Fortress 2 or Counter-Strike:Source.

Since we can never, ever, get people on for a weekend night, I propose we get everyone on next Wednesday, the 30th, later in the evening to have some good old fashioned fragging fun.

What say you?

...And we will strike down upon those of Darkness, with great vengeance and Furious Anger, those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.

I'll be there.

I'll also have much of Saturday the 26th to myself.  I was hoping to get some Counter Strike in if anyone is interested.

I'm down with this idea, though I don't have TF2...  I'll be on  Teamspeak Wednesday night, ready to play some CS:S!

I tried setting up a private CSS server for us to play on.  But since my Windows machine is sharing my Mac's internet connection, it doesn't have an actual IP address.  I'll drop the money for a wireless card if we really want our own dedicated server.  At the very least we can always just use the built-in temporary server.

I want to experiment with server mods and such, so we can have our own gaming experience.  There are some tweaks that you can set up to modify how the game physics work.  I'm hoping to replicate something akin to bullet-time.  I've already found the perfect Matrix map.  :D

How does your win PC not have an IP? If you mean it only has your internal IP, you can forward to that in your router.

My Mac is connected to the router wirelessly.  I run an ethernet cable between the Mac and the PC.  The PC shares the Mac's wireless connection via the ethernet cable.  If the Mac loses power, I lose my internet connection on the PC.  Not the most efficient setup, I know.  But I only use the PC for gaming anyway so there's no need to leave it up 24/7.  Unless of course I have the CSS dedicated server running.

The Mac's local IP is 192.168.1.100
The PC's local IP is 192.168.2.104

When I try to forward a port in my router settings, I can only forward ports to machines in the IP range of 192.168.1.*.  There's no option for 192.168.2.*

I can run the CSS server just fine, but I'm the only one who can play on it since it is technically running over a LAN.

Do you know a way around this?

Put your PC on the same subnet as the mac... by subnet I mean your PC's IP address should also start with 192.168.1....

I don't know your exact setup so you'll either have to manually put in a different IP on your PC or you'll have to configure your router appropriately.  Go to www.portforward.com to help you with this.

I've never used a MAC, and certainly wouldn't use one in this way - but I'm wondering if you can forward your routers ports to 192.168.1.100 and forward those same posts within your MAC setup to 192.168.2.104.

I don;t think changing the subnet would work because the mac is acting like another gatewaya nd the PC probably cant recognize the router at all.

That sounds like it would work. And you're right, the Mac is acting as a gateway.

I'll just buy a wireless card. That would solve the problem right off the bat, and I wouldn't have to piggy-back off the Mac's connection anymore.

You're going to have to explain that one to me.  If I can connect to the internet, wireless or otherwise, shouldn't I be able to host a server?
