Tbone - Going to London for a Month
« on: February 23, 2009, 01:41:36 pm »
It's all a ploy to be closer to the DF Euro server!

I got an opportunity to travel to London for a month for work and decided to take it. I leave March 17 and stay through April 16. To be honest, it sounds like I'll be working a LOT while I'm there (7 days a week, 12 hour days for 24 days). I assume I'll have internet (I better have it!) but I guess my cell phone won't work.

The biggest thing is that I'll be in a different time zone, so even if I am around it'll feel like I'm not. As I get more details, I'll let you guys know. At least I'll be around for the start of Darkfall so we can be well-established before I leave.

NoCry and others, you guys gotta show me around the city! I'm coming to you so it's the least you can do! I'm a stupid American when it comes to this (never been out of the country before), so any tips would be greatly appreciated. Like, isn't the voltage different there so how do I plug my stuff in? Should I say I'm Canadian to avoid getting rocks thrown at me? How can I get in touch with people with no cell phone? Do I get to participate in tea time?

I know that this may be trivially obvious, but have you applied for a passport, yet? I only ask because they take a month or two to get.

We'll miss you, Tbone!

What is it exactly that you do for work, T-bone?  I know it involves acting, but what are you going to be doing for 12 hrs a day for 7 days a week?  Sounds like real work. :p

filthy good news. Right, i shall help you as you wish. I deeply regret not meeting togi when he came this side of the water but i had only been in FA a few months then! send me a p.m with any immediate concerns!

Regarding american or not most brits quite like you lot; of course, there are idiots (as there are in any country) but, on the whole, your typical brit likes America and only wants to be liked back! splendid news.

Of course, tea time is something I excel at as I was properly schooled in such things. Subb, lets get you up from oxford too and we can show him what a welsh student looks like;)

Good lord, I may actually meet Tbone in Real life - I'm a bus journey away :x

TBONE RAPEAGE TIMEH!

(Be afraid...)

There are plenty of internet cafes around London T, or if you have an iPhone you can contact people through there, since O2 (major phone company here) have all the iPhones in their network. Be prepared to spend a shite load on drink in London though, I'm so glad Oxford's much cheaper :P

I have an iPhone, but it's with AT&T. I Imagine I'd have to subscribe to O2 in order to use their service.

I have a couple of different jobs. One of them is doing live presentations in stores. There's a booth with a camera and lights. I hand out free gifts and then demo a product and offer people a discount. It's very good money. I'll be running a booth with some other employees at this HUGE home show that's going on in London for 24 days straight. We'll be working hour on, hour off all day, and I think it is 12 hour days.

Where about will you be working? No free days at all? My days are varying 'cause of Clinical placements (bastard patients :x) so will have to play it by ear!

That'll be in Cardiff, since Dr. Who is filmed in good olde Wales :) [I do hope that's what you're on about :S]

Not sure. I'll give you more details when I get them. I know I'll have two days off before I begin work (so from the 17th-19th) and three to four days off after it's over (from the 13th-16th).

AT&T should do a roaming service; we have the same data networks as you lot. I know the show you mean, my wife sometimes drags me there;)
