As you have probably learned, race is going to determine a lot in Darkfall. To put it in perspective- elves, humans, and dwarves are aligned like Zion and EPN; wolves and orks are aligned like mervs and cyphs; and dark elves are aligned with no one like machines.


The difference is that it is a huge world and the aligned races are spread out and even though they are aligned there is no penalty for killing someone of an aligned race.

Now I assume we want to be the "good guys" to fit with our persona. That narrows it down to humans, elves, or dwarves. So this poll is determine which will be our dominant race. You can still play as a different race, but know that life will be a lot harder and the rest of the clan will have a harder time having your back.

I would have no problem with having to travel and perhaps "living" a difficult life.  It helps create a more rich character background. :)

Alfar (Dark Elves)
Homeland: Nagast
Allies: None
Enemies: Everyone
Racial mount: Shulgan Drake
Gifted with an innate affinity for the magical arts, the Alfar are skilled spellcasters who draw their power from their volatile God. Due to this unpredictability, Alfar spells fluctuate in power, creating a slight variance in result with every cast.

Dwarves
Homeland: Dvergheim
Allies: Humans, Mirdain
Enemies: Mahirim, Orks, Alfar
Racial mount: Garmir Ram
The dwarves follow the teachings of Ymir, a legendary mastersmith who forged many of Dvergheim's greatest wonders, as well as the nation itself.

Humans are a versatile race, with no particular strengths and weaknesses.

Mirdain (Forest Elves)

The Mirdain are somewhat magically adept, and most of them are able to direct a modest number of spells. They are also skilled hunters, proficient with the bow from an early age.

Homeland: Tribelands

Enemies: Humans, Mirdain, Dwarves, Alfar
Racial mount: None; able to run as fast as a mount on all fours when out of combat.
Though they have recently evolved to walk on two-legs, the wolf-like Mahirim retain the ability to run on all fours, and can easily out-pace all other races on foot and match other races' mounts for speed, whilst retaining the capability to ride other races' mounts. Given their long history of aggression and their somewhat arrogant nature, the Mahirim have few friends.

Orks
Homeland: Morak
Allies: Mahirim
Enemies: Humans, Mirdain, Dwarves, Alfar
Racial mount: Death Pig
Modern day Orkish society is built on the enslavement of the Goblin race, as they do all the manual labour for the Orks. The Orks also control an evil cult of Dwarves who design buildings and weapons for Orkish conquest; they live in much better conditions than the Goblins.

So based on the poll so far, our base of operations will be in the Mirdain area. This actually works well for several reasons.

Humans are going to be very crowded, with at least 25% of the gaming population choosing to hang around there. It will be harder to make a name for ourselves as a unique human-based clan and a lot easier for us to blend in with the masses. With only a little over 10% going with elves, we will be able to capitalize on resources and it could be easier for us to make a name for ourselves.

The agility and quickness works well for our name, the Furious Angels. When you think of Angels, you don't think of a group clamoring along in heavy armor. You think of people from a high elevation with both agility and strength.

Now that's my own opinion of things. The vote could still change to human (I doubt Dwarves have a chance), but we will see. This doesn't mean you have to be an elf. It would probably be beneficial for us to have some humans and dwarves with different strengths in order to be well balanced. I will say, though, that race seems to be more about your starting attributes, your mount, and a few special abilities rather than long-term benefits. For instance, if you become an elf and start with high DEX, as you use your sword, your DEX will actually decrease and your STR will increase automatically. Perhaps rate of increase is affected or something...I'm not sure.
