Well it looks like McCain has had a huge win on the republican side. On the Democratic side I have to call it a win for Obama. Hillary expected a huge victory... instead she got a practical tie. Obama has won more states and it's looking like he's going to come ahead in terms of delegates as well.

Who won Cali for the democrats? I haven't been able to get a straight answer as I've been on the road all day.

Your next president will more than likley be Clinton.  McCain is not a Republican.  He is a Dem in Republican clothing.  He will not be able to secure the conserative vote that he needs to beat Clinton.   He does not have the base of Republicans behind him only independent and liberal Republicans.

Rom and Huck are splitting the base between them and probably what Huck is doing is staying on to get the VP job.  McCain will more than likley take him in hopes of securing the Republican base vote but it won't work.  Therefore the base will stay home and not vote which means when the Dems come out to vote Clinton is back in.

Obama can't beat Clinton she has to much of a machine.  And besides if he starts really getting to close Bill and Hill will just give him a pair of cement shoes

Go ahead, make my day.

I think conservatives are more afraid of a Clinton presidency than a McCain one. Same goes for a good chunk of independents and democrats. I don't think Hillary can been McCain.

It's true that Clinton is a machine but Obama is a Movement. Slowly but steadily that movement is gaining traction. Hillary is running out of funds right now... she's dipping into her own pocket. Obama's campaign is raising more and more money everyday. This race looks like it's going to be a war of attrition... I don't think Hillary will survive it. The more people get to know Obama the more people will flock to him.

Let us all pray that ANYONE other than Hillary is the next President, because if she is, we won't be able to pray ever again.

Anyone > McCain > Clinton
If it's a McCain/Clinton choice I'm writing in Broin for pres.

The only good thing if McCain gets in is that our military will be beefed up and I'll have a better chance of getting my Pilot slot. Though, I won't have any money because he knows less than jack shit about the economy...

The biggest thing that scares the hell out of me with Hillary is on one hand she's in the pockets of health care companies but at the same time wants to create mandated universal health care. The only outcome I can see coming from that is unaffordable mandated health care. That's why I like Obama's plan... not only does he want to make health care affordable for everyone, he's not going to mandate it and force it down ppls throats.

As an outsider I do find this "race" amusing, in that people still believe the president will make a difference to the politics of the country.  The lobbyists and pork barrels will continue to make a difference to the politics of the country, not the puppet putting out a state of the union address :D

This is actually one of the reasons I've become an Obama supporter. He stands for getting the power out of the hands of lobbyists and back into the hands of the American people. He has helped pass some of the toughest reforms in Washington when it comes to lobbyists and wants to continue passing tough legislation on the issue.

I'd like to believe he would, but I know the power of hype in the US media and particularly in the Presidential race (finally that A Level in Govt and Politics is paying off.... lol).  It'll have to be a case for believing it when I see it for now.

Imho though, the President serves as little more than a figurehead in the same way that our Queen "controls" our Parliament.  Were either of them to overstep their boundaries and execute a veto they'd be out of their position, so it's a case of either being very very canny and carrying out your political agenda behind closed doors, or being a limp rag.  I think your current president might be the latter ;)

However I do think the US deserves a strong and decisive leader who isn't afraid to do what's right rather than what the House wants and who is able to lead the party electing him and reign in the opposition when it's required.  I think America is well overdue for a dose of democracy.

The reason the President gets so much attention is for two reasons:

1. The President is only there for 4-10 years

2. The President is only one person vs Congress which has roughly 552 members.

Thus the President's role has really just been to "guide" America. In reality, that's more power than the framers of the constitution really gave the president, but that was before television and the much wider reaching forms of mass media.

It is true that at the federal level, most of the power is with lobbyists and senators. However most of what they achieve is money, not actually shaping people's lives.

On a day to day basis, most people can go about their lives with no centralized federal government intervention at all, and that's really what America needs more of, not more Hillary.

I don't know much about Hillary, but in spite of this I liked some of the common sense she was talking, though again I'm cynical.  Do Americans generally dislike her because she's a borderline commie?
