CPU updating again!
« on: November 28, 2007, 03:08:49 pm »
Hey, updating my cpu again so i can keep up with the new wave of next gen games. i am updating my processor, memory and GFX.

Graphics Card: Innovision 3D 8500GT 512MB DDR2 DVI PCI-E Graphics Card: £45.99

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2GHz Socket 939 OEM Processor: £34.98

I'll be replacing my 1GB with a 2GB stick.

has anyone got any advice? Maybe there's better stuff out there but I know that the processor I'm getting is the best one I can get for my mobo and I dont really want to upgrade that yet.

I'm thinking of buying things from the US since the Dollar is dropping in value.

Whaddaya think?

What motherboard?  Have you looked into AMD Opterons? I'm not an AMD guy, but apparently they are supposed to be the best "bang for the buck" as far as Socket 939 processors go.

aww teck come on AMD had the best processors oh 2 years ago ;) back when it was amd vs. p4... now the core 2 duo owns all... which is what im getting for christmas... I hope.   But good luck playing MXO on that 8500 without much problem...  I have an 8800 ultra, and broin has an 8800 gtx we both have some issues with the game.  Nothing too major but its pretty annoying.  I dont know of its an nvidia driver issue or MXO but it doesn't look like its getting fixed anytime soon :(

Yeah when my motherboard died I basically just got a whole new system...

Asus M2n32-SLI deluxe wireless edition motherboard
AMD Athlone 64x2 6000 3.0G AM2 2x1mr (whatever all that means)
Corsair Twin2x2048-6400c3df r
dual GeForce 7900 GTX 512 MB

really not much more you can change on a system other than the hard drives and those better not go out... or someone dies!!!

Go ahead, make my day.

ah nice so you got the 7900's... a shame the dual 8800 wouldn't work for ya with that damn driver bug... oh well.. I hope the 7900's are treating you better.

Mobo = Epox EP-9NAJ / 9NPA + / 9NPA + Ultra

GFX = XFX Geforce 7300 GS, it's not bad but I want a 8 series.

Vista for Dx10 or not? That is the question!

You guys had problems with MxO and the 8800s?  My C2D E6300 & 8800GTS setup loved MxO. Pirus, I thought you were already running a Core 2 Duo? Get the E6300. It's only 1.86 Ghz, but loves running at 3.1+ Ghz (What mine is currently) on a stock Intel heatsink.

Nah teck im getting the E6850 with a Zalman HS and fan.  And yeah with XP inside of buildings the game would get a very low fps. It sounded like it was getting 5 or less at times, from what broin was saying.  Now with my 8800 ultra on vista I have whole different issue.  My colors get distorted at different angles.... its a rare occurance but it does happen from time to time.  I can live with my problem easier than Broin could live with the choppy game play.  Subb im not sure how to answer that.... Vista as of right now is about half as fast as XP in a performance stand point.  Yet in a year or 2 it may be twice as fast... who knows.  I dont think its worth it at the time being, but it is pretty lol :)

XP all the way, Subb. :)

The E6850 should be nice, Pirus. :) I'm still debating the upgrade to a Q6600.  I'd like a Quad Extreme, but $1000 is a bit much for me to spend on a processor right now. :x

Yeah I thought about a X6800 but yeah 1000 bucks is steep and I dont believe anything will really benefit from it... I know games wont atleast not yet.  And hell I dont multitask enough to use all 4 cores so not worth the money in my case.
