I have a good friend who is having trouble answering a question of an application (heh I know). I was confused at the question myself. Maybe somebody with more experience could shed some light on it.

What are the steps to build a software package from source?

I'm not really sure I understand what is being asked... but when building a software package it is really important to understand the audience you are building the package for. Think about features you will include and provide the flexibility in the code to do what you want it to do, even if you aren't implementing feature x right away.

Am I anywhere along the track?

I was confused too.

I came up with an explaination of: A software package is a group of software/source. So for example if one were to create an installer for Java, a package could consist of the actual java plus utilities like eclipse and plugins.

Anyway something along those lines were submitted for an application and the next day they wanted to setup an interview! heh.
