wii wii wii
« on: December 06, 2006, 11:47:56 am »
Holy crap..

You guys don't have a wii thread yet?  WTF!

ok, this is the official wii thread then.

So my story begins:  I camped out for 32 hours to get mine on launch day and it was worth it.

I had with me:

Tent, Sleeping bag, long orange extension cord, Television, Gamecube, Laptop, all the Matrix and Starwars DVDs, Heater, Super comfy folding chair, and my absolute lust for the wii.

Guess who was first in line beyatches.  This walmart had 20 of them in stock and the other 19 people I hung out with in line were awesome folk.  I was able to score the following:

A Wii with wii sports of course.
Extra Wii Remote
Extra Nunchuck
Pink "Wii Condom" for the Mrs.
Zelda: TP

I had already in my possession:

Madden 07
RedSteel
Rayman: raving rabbids
Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Tony Hawk: Downhill Jam
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance

-----------------------------

So far...

I am amazed.  I have never had so much fun playing a console.  Depending on the game, I can have my 5 year old nephew over to play or my 50 year old father in law.  It's great fun and so far everyone that has played over at my house has sworn to buy one as soon as they become more available.

I really think they had it right when they code named the wii the revolution, because the focus of the wii is revolutionary.  I think the same goes with the nintendo DS.  It's awesome how few PSP's have sold compared to the DS.  Even with less sophisticated "power" and graphics, FUN is the great equalizer.

It's good to see Nintendo back in their game and I really can't wait to see what else they have in store for us.

I would love to hear your comments and wii stories.

ever since the gamecube disaster i have found nintendo to be more of a "kids console" but it seems like the Wii might change my opinion on that.  It looks like it might be pretty fun.  I actually thought about trying to pick one up and I dont even like consoles that much.  So good score there Likwid

Ket:

Lol that site is funny as hell.  Just goes to show you, you shouldn't later up in crisco before playing the wii.  lol jk I think some of those accidents are staged but the others are just proof of how into the game you can get.  :)

Pirus:

I've always been a fan of Nintendo.  I think they always focus on fun rather than keeping up with the jones'.  I agree I wish the GC had done better and got more love form 3rd parties but the wii is getting lots of 3rd party love.  The games are just too much fun for words.  I would say that kids console doesn't describe the wii..  Maybe a family and friends console.  But found my gameplay doesn't revolve around the party titles alone.. I'm getting lots of solo time in as well.  It's just all up to the developers now.

I agree with you about not liking consoles much.  The only one I actually paid for was my original xbox.  my ps2 and gamecube were free.  And the only one that I ever played was the gamecube.  But not often.  The wii has this memo board thing in it's UI and shows a log of all your play time and what games you play the most.... and since nov 19th it's recieved at least 30 mins a day but on average 2-5 hours.  lol

So we shall see.  So far I'm really into it and I feel the wii has brought pc gamers back to the consoles and kids and adults actually into gaming.

Also If your gf's dont game this is a sure fire way to get them into it with you.

It looks like fun, but I have no money and none of my friends do either. My bro is big into console gaming - maybe he'll eventually get one - but I just can't pay that much for a system and then dish out $60 every time I want a new game, which is why I have been out of the console loop for a while now. Wii seems like it will go one way or the other - either it'll be the new craze or the next Virtual Boy (anyone remember that disaster?). I would REALLY like to get my hands one one and try it out, though.

lol yeah I actually kind of liked virtual boy... atleast it was something new and inventive.  It showed that imagination can bankrupt you lol but it was still a cool setup and idea.

My Wii is amazing.. at least.. thats what the lady tells me ;)

But really.. I camped out 8pm the night before launch at my local SUPER TARGET.. they got 63 and I was 8th in line.. 12 hours beyaches..
Anyways.. all the games so far are really fun and I would sacrifice the "HD UBER GRAPHICS" any day for the ability to actually interact with the game..
And as for N64 and SNES.. the games are available for download.. FIRST ON MY LIST.. GOLDENEYE!!! and then old school mario and zelda..

Friend talked me into coming up to wal-mart with her so she wouldn't be alone. Turned out five other of our friends were also getting one. I was 18/20 in line. Had to work that night too, so at about 10:30, I did a dangerous thing. I handed my little brother (16) my credit card and thorough details of his death if he were to misuse it. About an hour into my shift, he came by and dropped off the Wii, Twilight Princess, and Redsteel.

Redsteel is a solid Ubisoft title. They definitely have the shooter genre figured out. Only problem is that being as its a launch title, its going to have some pretty bad glitches. Mainly a few view control problems (my TV most likely) and the some event trigger issues. Baddies not attacking until you walk through the right area in the room kind of thing. The sword fighting system  is not quite as intuitive as commercials have played it out to be, but the further you progress, the more intricate katas and special moves you learn, making it at least a little more fluid. One thing I've noticed is that new players will try to 'chain' slashes and moves. I.E., they will start a left swing when the right swing hasn't quite completed itself on-screen. Redsteel does not respond to this at all. Other video games which would implement a kind of 'action queue' has trained us to just chain up events and, technically, abusing the program. Simple and efficient timing is what is required, and when executed, is greatly rewarding. Also, the tiered-out missions in the latter half of the game is quite enjoyable, giving you a base to branch out from, rather than a never ending roller-coaster of a game. My only personal complaint so far would be the weapon variety. Sure, there are a good number of guns, but I'm used to the more potent weapons not being unveiled until further in the game. Rather, you are introduced to the Type-12 (automatic shotgun) in the first couple of missions.

Twilight Princess is actually a GC title that was pushed into being a Wii launch title by forces unknown. I would like to see how it actually preforms on the GC with its control scheme. Otherwise, THIS GAME IS THE SHIT. PERIOD. Each and every weapon introduced (sword, shield, slingshot, boomerang) and its unique controls and functions have not yet ceased to amaze me. The boss fights thus far (I'm only on the ice temple, and I haven't even made it through the front door yet), while not quite tactically challenging, have been fun and interactive. I'm still in awe over the forest temple boss. (Fire temple boss? Not so much so...) The first thing that really caught me off guard was when they started introducing the twilight. WTF? Pixel art? Black stuff? WHY THE HELL AM I A WOLF?!? OH WAIT, I CAN DIG AND SMELL, THIS IS PRETTY COOL. And stuff.... :D   The progression has had an interesting formula so far. Find spirit, kill bugs, cleanse twilight, do temple. I'm coming up on the third temple though, and thus, the last piece of fused shadow, so I'm not sure if the game is going to take much of a turn in events or how it is going to continue. More on this when I hit it. :)
