Yeah, basically the gold strip that connecting "into" the mainboard may not be in as much as possible. Note that some mainboards don't have a AGP/PCI slot deep enough to take the entire gold strip. As long as the strip is LEVEL, and not at an angle, then you should be fine.

Do this for all cards.
Recovery won't do anything - the machine wasn't starting, so hardware issue, not software. It could also be heat, but I think that's a bit extreme..... normally get beeps, unless the heat is also affecting PSU.

You definately have a hardware issue, and it will probably appear again - sorry :(

Ok well... after checking that the card is seated properly... it's fine... but for the past 2 days I havn't been able to get my computer to start up at all... again I'm just getting a black screen as soon as I start up the computer. I'm really starting to lose hope at this point =/

Can you verify....

Your COMPUTER doesn't START (ie no power, or lights, regardless of what's on the monitor), or WINDOWS doesn't start (ie power, lights, but just a black screen)?

ok... I physically removed the video card... computer works fine now it seems. Now I guess it's just a matter of getting a new video card. I hope... I don't want to waste 100 buck just to find out that the new card doesn't work for whatever reason either. Is there any way to tell if it's the video card or if it's my motherboard/apg slot that has the problem?

Windows did not start... the power light was on but it was a blank screen.

If removing the card makes it work does that mean there is a built in video to the motherboard? If so you might need to disable that one in the bios or disable it via a jumper, it could be getting confused with two videos, if that is even the case with this motherboard?

Don't believe everything you think.

ok... well i checked the bios... the build-in card is disabled. I put an older agp video card in there and the computer booted up and ran just fine. So now I'm fairly sure it was the videocard itself that was the problem.

Well... just got back from CompUSA... picked up a ATI Radeon X1300... works great... no problems on start up... i've restarted, shut down, etc a bunch of times and I havn't had a problem yet. So it looks like the problem has been solved... thanks for the help guys.

Okay, my ATI control centre says that VPU has reset my gfx accelerator or something.... if I get it again I'll copy the message. This is pissing me off now; the card has been fitted perfectly, I checked, I updated it.... ARGGGG
