damn ATI i had the same prob on my bros computer, i uninstalled drivers, cleaned them off with driver cleaner and reinstalled, but still had the same damn problem. I had to tottally reformat and install clean drivers and then it worked, I tried tons of things to get it to work but that is the only thing i could get to fix it, I hope you dont end up having to do that, but i format every 6 monthsish anyway.

OK... so after reinstalling the drivers and doing a system restore I havn't had any issues starting my computer. Now I have a new problem. After starting my computer getting to the desktop... anywhere between 30 seconds to 5 - 6 mins my monitor goes black and acts like the computer is not on. No error message or anything... the computer is just completely unresponsive.

Hit F8 when loading up, choose VGA mode.  You should be able to get into Windows that way and remove the bad drivers

Install the MAINBOARD CHIPSET DRIVERS.
These handle the control of requests from software (the ATI dll) to the hardware (Graphics Card).
The chipset drivers will be the bus driver for the BUS, which takes the data across the board, sort of. If it doesn't know the best route, or has trouble checking who has a ticket, then it might not get the passenger to the destination!

Also, along with latest SP and fixes with XP, get latest DirectX.

(and the clean ATI driver thingy too)

i dunno know how I'm gonna find and install the mainboard chipset drivers... seeing as nothing at all happens when i turn on the power. =/ just a black screen, the monitor not registering the computer is on and no activity at all from the computer itself.

So I would guess your gfx card is either unseated or dodgy... what BIOS beeps are you getting?

heh, didn't see the post where it doesn't start :)

Hmmmn, computer not starting now... no activity = no fan noise = no beeps.
Open the side of the case (it wasn't a laptop was it?).
Does the fan on either the CPU or the PSU move a *fraction* when you push the power button? Try with a cold reset if there is a main power button at back of pc.
If NO - Power Supply could be dead, which would be best.

Check all connections to ensure htey are seated correctly.

Good luck!

I've run into this problem several times in the past and it has always turned out to be an issue with your video card.  It's either not seated in properly (like Destyn suggested) or is about to fail completely.  Re-installing drivers may seem like the answer but if drivers were the problem you still should have gotten past the P.O.S.T.

what do you mean by seated properly? I hope the card isn't failing... it's a pretty new card... it's only 6 months old or so... not sure... I'll ask my friend when he bought it.

Check to make sure it's screwed in, and that all the connectors are firmly in the slot
