The New DirectX 10 cards
« on: August 15, 2006, 10:47:47 am »
As many of you know vista is coming out early next year and it will have directx 10 well nvidia and ati are producing cards that are made just for that.  Nvidia's card will come out in september and will feature the first ever dual core gpu.  If you remember the nvidia 7950 it has 2 cards merged together to be used as 1 card well this is the same type thing.  Needless to say its gonna kick ass.  The process (gpu die size) has been lowered on both cards for increased power and speed.  Not to mention the nvidia card is also going to have ddr4 instead of the current ddr2 memory system.  The ati card will be out sometime in november. The code names for the cards are:  G80(nvidia) and the R600(ati)

Damnit, I like how I plan my upgrades right on the verge of new shit coming out.

I'm sure ATI will follow suit.  I'm curious as to how they will do now that they are owned by AMD.  Nonetheless, I'm definately looking forward to hearing the benchmarks of an SLI dual core GPU. :D

lol well jeyk here is some more bad news for ya then amd is coming out with a new chip in a month or 2 to compete with the pentium conroe it will be 65nm instead of the current 90nm process, so in other words its a lot faster and its also dual core and should be an increase of 25% above the top current amd chip.  Atleast thats what amd has said, but only benchmarks will tell the truth about that.  Btw the conroe pentium chip is now available on new egg. It as of right now is the best gaming cpu out it destroys the amd x2's and fx chips.

I guess I'll be sticking with the budget crowd. :(

Do you still have your old X2 lying around, Pirus?

well the direct x 10 card sure there will be several models you can get one of the mid ranged ones or something.  As for the amd chip I seriously doubt it lol im sure it will start out around $800 usd.

Perfect timing. I'll be done with my job in two weeks, and I'll have 700 dollars (or so) to spend, if my dad doesn't make me save half of it. If he does, I'll have about 350 or so... :(

Well, if I have an nVidia 6800 GTO, and a 3.2 ghz HT P4 processor, which one should I go for?

well if you want to stay with pentium... yuck lol then you will see a pretty big difference from the conroe pentium chip but i would go with the direct x 10 card nvidia 8800 when it comes out.
