i honestly never liked the fact that monolith took mxo from ubisoft, i would have preferred ubisoft keeping it after seeing the work they did with the splinter cell series in any case... but i also agree that sony will most likely, and hopefully do a better job than monolith if this rumor is true, either way i wouldnt be suprised if this was true...

I like Walrus, he's always been a cool guy to talk to, so itll be cool if they didnt get rid of him.....

But twitch or aether.....ummmm...not sure.........they havent impressed me enough to actually strive to have them in mxo if all of these rumors are true.....

A quote I found off of a forum....

"While I cannot say for a fact SOE bought them, I can confirm through a friend of mine who's a GM that mass layoffs are indeed happening. I cannot confirm MxO has been sold, nor can I confirm Monolith is getting out of MMOs, but it'd make sense with the mass layoffs. If my friend wasn't under an NDA, he'd be able to confirm everything for me, but all he was allowed to share was about the layoffs. However, Monolith is not closing, as he's trying to transfer to another department."

Who know's if he's lying or telling the truth but anyway's might as well add to the controversy................

okay, well i am stuck in the middle, being a possible sony rep at e3 2006 i should not say anything bad. but it could compleatly change the game for the worse.

Wow! Intersting news...  I am actually speachless.  I think Khronik  has a good point about them using @thematrixonline.com now instead of lith or wb...

...

Gaa!  I hope the LET stays!  Aether and Walrus were great when during that IGN chat, even tho ppl asked dumb questions.

If this comes true, this will be biggest loss in MMO history. If SOE buys out MxO I will give it a month or so to impress me. If it doesn't, I'm gone. SOE fucking sucks as far as MMO's are concerned. SWG, Everquest, Planetside, etc.

There will be no more live events, no more interesting storyline, no more awesome puzzles to solve. Instead, there will just be:

/shout Level 50 Assassin LFG
/shout Buffing Combat Aura 1.0 150k info
/shout Selling Blue Force Crystal, 75k PST
/shout OMFG new patch is teh suck lol

Seriously, this game will go to shit if they are sold to SOE. The Live Events Team is what made this thing interesting, it's what inspired me to write my story to begin with. It's what drove me to apply for the team, and the LESIG which is probably now being cancelled before it even started.

I just can't believe this is happening. I was gone for a single day to go my girlfriend's graduation, I come back and all this shit is happening...Jesus Christ.

I certainly hope they don't fuck up this game, otherwise it'll be far worse than anyone has ever bitched about before. All the repairs to the trees, and balancing, and bug fixes could never replace the Live Events, or the Live Events Team.

It's time for me to write up an extremely concise, verbose, and lengthy petition on this matter. Let's fucking rock.

Quote from the Corpnews bulliten.

"I'm guessing they'll put it on the Station pass, thus giving another option for subscribers that's not catass fantasy or Sim-Beru.

I imagine that Sony realizes that, the anomaly of Blizzard notwithstanding, NCSoft is their main competitor, and NC has a much more diverse lineup than Sony does. This helps close that gap somewhat without waiting 2-3 years for another product.

Hard to tell without knowing the financial details, but I'd guess that at worst this will be a wash for Sony, and could work out nicely for them. MXO isn't pulling WoW style numbers, but it's no AC2, either."

Interesting comparison there.

The main drive of this game was the Live Events Team furthering the story with a years worth of material laid out by Paul Chadwick under direct supervision of the Wachowskis. If they simply "do away" with  Live Events altogether, I will be utterly shocked. I seriously doubt the Wachowskis would allow somthing like that to happen.  It's not like them. Not to mention it's a bad idea to take out the main focus of the game for so many players.  Many people will quit the game if this happens., and they would know this. If Sony wants to fix this game, lift it up off the ground, and  expect ANY kind of revenue from it, that will be the last thing to go. No. Live Events are staying.

That said, I'm not disappointed in this idea. I'm going over in my mind all the great things that SOE can bring to the game and make it even more like the Matrix experience I want to pay for. I will say that I hope certain people in that 26 that stayed on include Walrus and Aether, and a few others. Definitely not Twitch and Andvari though. Those bastards can rot for all I care for the whole mission recycling fiasco and my getting banned.

If this is true, I think things are looking up for MxO.

Oh, and could someone explain this "adding to the station pass" thing?? Do we get to play all their other stuff too like Infantry, Planetside or SWG?

It is of my opinion that the Matrix name, storyline, and the way it can be depicted in game, is still all controlled by Warner Bros, and indeed the W Brothers. The control of servers, bandwidth, etc is certainly not an issue that should affect the game. I believe that Warner Bros would be in a contract with the production company (Lith/SoE), and events would have to carry on as if the movie would.

As for staff staying, I presume that there will still be some... original programmers/consultants/customer service. It all depends on who exactly they work for I guess.

I'm a total frickin rock star from mars.
C'mon bro, I got tiger blood.

yeah, this doesnt make much sense to me either. i mean Sony and WB have in the past proven they dont quite like each other. they compete as music and motion picture recording studios, jsut for starters. why sell it to SoE of all ppl. as real as it does sound, im calling shenanigans on this one until i see something more legit. hwoever if it is true, god fucking help us all. im 99% likely to quit this game. i hate SoE and their bullshit. SoE is the only company who can take one of the most amazing games ever made, planetside, and turn it so bad it goes right down the shitter.

Honestly my biggest fear if SOE got its hands on this games is after a few patchs and changes the next thing you know they'll have the race to unlock the one type crap. Grind out all the professions and shove some crystal up the ass and now you to can take on any living or non living ass bag in the game..... it'll be more fun then sticking your finger into your eye socket. :)
