lol.  I personally dont smoke, but I celebrate the holiday because so many of my friends get stoned out of their minds..  I dont understand why 4:20 is significant either.  I think it was a stoner enlightenment thing that he forgot after a bag of doritos or two.

Well, as mentioned, 'any excuse for a spliff' gave rumours to the story a stoner goes, "well it's 4:20, thats good enough for me".

Ganja was brought from Jamaica, over there the field workers used to buy the weed and smoke it in the morning, claiming it gave them the energy for work. This changed at some point, when (if I remember correctly, but don't quote me) the main sellers changed their "open" times to the afternoon, so they all bought it when they went home, and thus it became a recreational drug.

It's possible that the shop opened at the new time of 4:20pm.
