It's a pretty smart move by google. Inflate the interest by only allowing a "limited number of special invites" then flooding them with free invites while the excitement over this 'special limited' beta email still exists.

Spreads like wildwife and now everyone has one.

It is. But Gmail is the best email service I have ever had. In the 5 months I've had it, I have NEVER recieved a spam email in my inbox and am nowhere near using the amount of allowed storage. <3 for gmail.

You tend not to get spam when you don't sign up for porn/go through Yahoo and AOL chatrooms.

I personally think that gmail should stay that way, invite only. Its an interesting way to have an email, means that not just anyone can get em.
