Tett Interview
« on: July 01, 2012, 02:13:55 pm »
Tett's Application: http://thefuriousangels.com/index.php?msg=119648

Alright, guys. This is a little different than our normal interview process, but, as mentioned in Tett's application, he is unable to speak, literally. So, what we did to get around this impediment was email him the questions and have him answer them.

Directions: Read through the answers with an open mind. Once you've made your decision, PM ME YOUR VOTES. Do not post Yes/No in this thread. Voting will be open until Monday evening. I think we're having a meeting tomorrow, so we can discuss the applicant, then if there's anything that needs to be discussed.

Quote
Where did you first hear about the Furious Angels?

I found you in the SWTOR Jung Ma guild progression section.

Why is it that you decided to try and join the Furious Angels?

I was looking for a guild of good character that was actively progressing in EC HM. I have also noticed that you as a guild are keeping up with PVP. It is not easy to do both, so I see the kind of dedication that I was looking for. I was also really intrigued by your website and the puzzle. It shows creativity, and a commitment to recruit quality players.

How long have you been playing SWTOR?

I have played since Alpha.

Do you see yourself playing SWTOR long term? Any reason you wouldn't?

I love this game and see no reason why I would switch to anything else in the near future. The only other game I am really kind of anticipating is EQ Next.

Are you currently playing any other MMO? If so, what game? Which gets more of your time?

This is the only one I play.

Any previous guild experience? In any other guild currently?

The more prominent guilds I've been in were Euphoria in EQ1, which I played for about 4yrs, quit right before PoP. From there I played SWG for the first year or so, (pre-NGE was the best). I was in a heavy RP guild called House Lymbo for about 6 months prior to launch. We basically RP'd our characters on the guilds forum biding our time before the game, but then for some reason, the closer we got to launch, more and more people left. It had something to do with not having Hutt faction if I remember correctly, and the guild became divided. I only list them to show some of my RP back ground. I have also played pencil and paper D&D 2nd Edition with RL friends off and on for the last 20yrs, so I have pretty good experience at RPing and staying in character.

After SWG I played EQ2 for about 2yrs in a guild called Atrocity. We were one of the top 2 guilds on the Permafrost server, the other was Fires of Heaven. And we were very competitive with them. We had a smaller crew, but we were all extremely active. We actually had the WW1st I believe for completing the Split Paw raid when that came out. Atrocity finally broke up when PVP went live, the guild was too divided. From EQ2 I moved on to DDO. Again I found myself in a smaller active guild, though I can't remember the name of it, but we were one of the few that had the dragon raid on farm, and eventually we joined forces with a larger more known guild called, Brotherhood of the Spider. I played and raided for about a year in DDO, and then Vanguard came out. VG was one of the best looking mmo's I had seen since EQ1, so I left DDO to try that, and eventually ended up in a guild called Trinity. Trinity was hardcore to the extreme. When we weren't killing bosses, the devs were using us to test new content, raid encounters, class balancing etc. From VG Trinity moved to Rift and I was with them through alpha testing, but then I had a trip planned that was looming, and decided that I did not wish to play at such an all encompassing rate. I felt like the game had become a job and that I was working for the devs, but without any compensation. So I stepped away from Trinity, and played Rift for about a year at the highest level in a couple of different guilds that I cannot remember, probably because they didn't last long for one reason or another, and then heard news of SWTOR, and here I am. I alpha tested SWTOR for 3 or 4 months off and on before beta, and then decided to try my own hand at running a guild. It was called Ultra Bantha. I created a website and everything. My mistake I believe though was that I didn't start it soon enough. Many guilds were already in place before the game began. It took a heavy toll on my time to teach myself how to create a website, a WP Blog, adding a forum etc. This stunted my capping 50 just enough, combined with pre-existing guilds, that recruitment, and finding the kind of players I was hoping to add, was extremely difficult. After about a month with only me and 2 other active guildies, I decided to dissolve UB. From there me and the 2 guildies and half a dozen or so players from another restless guild, formed a new guild, which is still going strong today called, Terror. The one fatal flaw in that communion for me and a few others, was the guild leader...I have never played with anyone with his temper. The man would RAGE at the drop of a hat, and it became more and more pronounced as we drove deeper into EC HM. It became so detrimental that good players began to leave the guild. I guess realising how serious his problem was, he finally quit the guild himself, although his departure did also coincided with D3 coming out, along with a few others.

It was at that point that Terror kind of hit the wall. We were down to only a half dozen or so active players, and after all that tumultuousness, I needed a break from the Empire. So I left Terror with no ill will. I still consider it's members as friends, but I really wanted to see the other side of the game, and am really enjoying the Republic side, much more so I am finding, than I did the Empire. I don't know exactly what it is or how to explain it, but I'll try by saying that when I log in to the Republic side, I feel that I am welcome, and that I am part of the whole. I am finding people to be nicer, more considerate of other players etc, which I value more than progression. Which is why I was willing to give up all that I had built with my 2 empirical characters. Don't get me wrong, I am deeply committed to progression, and my Gunslingers Trooper and Jedi buffs, along with my 38 or so Legacy Levels, and my knowledge of the galaxy, Op encounters etc remain with me, but I am also seeking a guild with a more positive disposition. With FA, I see leaders who understand the value of quality over quantity, and I have gotten a good sense of your character just by the courteous way you've handled my recruitment. I really appreciate that. I will say that not being able to talk has never really hindered me in gaming. In the early days of MMO's like EQ1, everyone typed. I love playing DPS, and generally I just follow directions and do my job. I also have a very good sense of humor about it. I'm not easily offended or anything.

And no, I am not currently in any other guild. My 2 alts remain at rest unguilded.

Are you playing on the Jung Ma server?

Yes.

What level and class are you? Why have you chosen that class?

I just hit 50 last night. I'm playing a Smuggler/Gunslinger. I decided to play a Gunslinger because it's the purest most damaging of the DPS choices. I also have a 50 Juggernaut and Bounty Hunter, and I like some of the similarities that GS has with BH.

If you had to stereotype yourself as a type of gamer, how would you classify yourself? Roleplayer? Hardcore gamer?

I'd say I'm more of a hardcore gamer, but I also really enjoy the extra immersive factor of being on a RP server.

How many hours are you putting into the game a week?

I'd say probably 30+. I usually play Mon Tues Wed and Friday from 2pm til whenever I can't stay awake any longer, and then I spend Thursdays and the weekend with my wife, friends and family. The living situation with my wife is kind of strange, but it works. I met her about a year ago and we recently got married. We get along really well, however we live 50 miles apart. She is living with her mom for now, who is up there in age and in poor health, and needs someone to do things like shopping and drive her to appointments etc. So my wife lives with her mom and comes to my house on the weekends, and I drive to her house and visit once a week on Thursdays. We will get a place together someday when her mom passes, but no one is in a rush for that to happen. The week day I drive to her house and visit I can change to say Wed or Friday, if it works out better with the guilds raiding schedule. I work at home doing technical drawings for a lighting construction company, so my time is pretty flexible.

What do you plan on doing endgame? PvP? Flashpoints? Operations? All of the above?

All of the above.

What is your view on trash talking and griefing?

I refrain from it. I don't think there's anything wrong with light competitive banter in the spirit of fun, but there's a line where it crosses over and becomes negative raging, which I really despise. And as far as griefing and killing lower level characters etc, I don't recall ever killing any player lower than myself just for the sake of killing them, (it's not my way), unless attacked first. I will say that if I am out running a mission and stumble across an opposing player of equal or greater level than myself, I will usually gun them down if I can, but I won't stand there afterwards and kill them over and over, or seek them out after the outcome. We are on a PVP server and I see open world pvping as part of the game, but I do understand the difference between a fair kill, and just griefing someone. I truly consider that there is a person behind the character.

Any reason you couldn't use TeamSpeak on a regular basis while playing SWTOR?

No. You know I am unable to speak, but I have no problem being on and listening, following directions, and interjecting by typing.

How do you plan on contributing to the guild?

I will be a very consistent raider when there's a spot open, as well as a competitive PVP'r, person to run FP's with. I will also try to represent the guild in the best possible light that I can, under any circumstance.
I am attaching a pic of my PVP stats which I took yesterday. It shows my stats from 1-49. I have consistently been 1st or 2nd in just about every WZ I've played in as I leveled, and I believe I was part of winning a majority of those matches. The Total Wins versus the MVP Votes Received reflects that. I am not saying this to boast, just to show that I'm a solid player. I hit 50 last night and crafted my Rakata Med Pack and Skill/Cunning Adrenal. I also equipped myself with the best gear I could get so far, which is just Recruit PVP gear, but I do have a Battle Master main hand pistol, and will try to at least get the other matching offhand today. I have played two WZ's so far since hitting 50, and it's apparent that I have been thrown back to the bottom of the pit as far as my gear compared to others who have been playing the same character for months. I will however work to improve on my gear each day, PVP and PVE, and pull myself back up.

Thank you for your consideration,
Tett
