Poll: APB - Yay or Nay?
« on: May 31, 2010, 12:21:22 am »
Well, miracles do happen. The business team involved with APB heard the uproar and took out the manufacturing/auction costs, at least for launch. These costs were originally small fees that were added on to any item you made available to trade or sell. The result was something ridiculous like getting charged $5 to make sure your crew all had the same pants.

With this cost removed, that makes the price to play $50 plus $10/mo OR $7/20 hrs. Of course, that doesn't mean their RTW point system is completely gone...it's uncertain what they'll be using it for now.

So with this change, is anyone wanting to sub for the game? Or is it too little too late?

Hmmmmm in my oppinion the purchase system is alittle flawed but can we really hate a game which has been promising from the start? How about if this happenend with swtor (very unlikely seen as it really is a stupid idea to make the purchase system like the one that APB has set in place), would we frail at the game or see it for its full potential? you tell me :D

The damage is already done. The greedy payment plan combined with numerous annoying bugs. You can't even drive without lag and driving is a major aspect of gameplay! Terrible sound glitches and freeze framing. I'm sorry but if I can play GTA4, a wonderful looking game, with no issues but I can't play in APBs little unglamorous instances then I'm not playing it at all.

I like a lot of what APB is trying to do--but in the end its lacking and buggy. I think it's awesome that missions pit you against other people--a true PvP mission system. I think it's awesome that you can customize gear and upgrades. Honestly APB is the Anti-Matrix. It has everything I wanted the Matrix to have. And the Matrix has everything APB is missing: Story, Massive Cityscape, some PvE missions, STORY, Live Events, and STORY.

Don't believe everything you think.

Lithium said it perfectly. I don't even have anything to add. The answer for me is "no", too.

...And we will strike down upon those of Darkness, with great vengeance and Furious Anger, those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.

At its most basic, the game is nothing more than a standard shooter with an extensive character customization system.  There's nothing about the shooter aspect that I found genuinely unique.  That leaves the character customization, which they are offering for free in the Social District, but you still have to buy the game itself.  $50 for a character designer is not a wise investment, in my opinion.

You have to pay close attention to what developers say when they talk about their game.  Every sentence is very carefully crafted.  So when they say this...

Quote
Today we announce that we are removing the RTW points manufacturing fee for launch.

...Their goal is to quell the uproar over the manufacturing costs.  And I'm sure plenty of people changed their minds about leaving the game when they saw that.  But the last two words in that sentence are the dev's safety net.

They're specifically saying they're removing the manufacturing costs for launch, which means they reserve the right to reinstate the costs at any time post-launch.

I never actually got into the beta stages of APB, ive watched quite alot of Dev videos including the Chris Simons video of multiplayer coop missions. From what i could see ("only see") the gameplay was abit destructive and lacked many of the mmorpg characteristics. As opposed to the dev actually categorising his game into the mmofps industry he tryed for a more role playing approach. Throughout the Dev module it compares the gameplay styles towards such games as Quake live and GTA. Which in theory are realistically two very different games which questions their actual motive for the game. Dont get me wrong i am not trying to downsize the games characterisitics, because in theory the game should work. Now judging on the payment situation the Developer was obviously trying to step up and mug the nearest fan waiting for the game to be released, unfortunately due to the common averages of intellect today we the public have spotted the outrageous amount of charges that follow APB. Now if indeed he does reinstate the charges after launch this only follows the questions When? and how much? Maybe i was abit to ambitious with APB and forgetting the true problems behind it. Lets wish the best for this game and hope that in the future they develop it some more.
