If I remember correctly Dr. Suess was a cartoonist before he wrote those children's books. I don't have any way to really verify this next fact but here it is: I think his newspaper editor dared him to write a book using less than a certain number of different words and the foot book came to be. I don't remember where I heard that but there you have it.
