I think the file before might just have been the zip file.  That compresses the data so it takes up less space.  After you "unzip" it and install it then it takes up the normal amount of space.  I belive that's what this could be.

:O, I said replace your avatar with something more reasonable. Not something bigger!
Please try to keep it under 150 pixels at least :D.
You aren't very familiar with forums are you? Or computers?

Anyways, try to explain better.

From where did he install? cd? iso file on computer? zip file he just unzipped?

You might not have any idea of what I'm talking about.

It's just compression. What compression does is notice all of the bits of data in the file that are the same. Then, instead of storing those pieces of data over and over again, it just stores the LOCATION of those pieces of data. The installer or decompression program then reads the locations of those bits of data, and writes that piece over and over again to the right locations on your hard drive.

I don't know if that's a good, though overly simple explanation, but I hope it cleared things up.

I'm confused by the question.
Every game unpacks itself in general...

Compression utilities are always looking for ways to get the files smaller.
Most compressors do this by finding data that is the same.. ie hex data "0F3A" might occur 700 times in a series of files. Why not just store it once, and have a smaller link to it so that its generated 700 times when required, rather than storing 700 times the same piece of code!

I'm a total frickin rock star from mars.
C'mon bro, I got tiger blood.

watcher and ninja have it right, comprestion overlaps similar data and gives info on how many times to copy to where and whatnot, the idea behind better comprestion is overlaping smaller and smaller strings of info to the point where you only have a few different things of small size with a huge number of copying links.  Think of it like this, lets say there are 100 agent smiths right? and instead of haveing all 100 of them stored seperatly, since they are exactly the same, a compression would just say ok, store one agent smith and on decompression copy that info 99 times to different places, pluse the origanal and you get 100 smiths back.  and a better compresion file would be like hey look smiths arms are the same only mirrored, It'll just store the info on the left arm and when decompressed  it'll mirror a copy and put it on his right sholder.  Mabey not the best anology but I always think placing things in human terms and using familar objects help, well smith is human like and I think we all know him and the matrix.

P.S. that is why the game is much larger decompresed and installed, I think alot of files now can be compresed to about 1/3 their real size. and that is how you can fit a 1.5 gig instaled game on a 600mb cd.

I think L4M3R is right too.  :D  (ok, ok, Halo is all right but I really don't see why some people sell their souls to play it)
