Do you have a link that outlines what tweaks would need to be performed specifically?

Yeah I mostly used this and a utility program they linked to in it:

http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/3116/tweaktown_s_solid_state_drive_optimization_guide/index3.html

As for drives with better hardware GC (garbage collection) I'm not sure how to help, other than reading reviews that might shed light on the subject. Just remember TRIM cannot be used (yet) by most or all raid controllers. I use CrystalDiskMark for checking speeds. So far, after 2 months, I haven't lost any write speed on my setup using Crucial RealSSDs.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148357 (I bought two when they were a shell shocker deal @ $99.99/ea)

But I don't write much because it's just for gaming. And if I lost write speed I might not notice it because I'm not doing crazy writing for video encoding or something like that. And, to be honest the Crucial's aren't built for crazy write speeds anyway, but it's still very respectable at 150 MB/s in raid.

My opinion: only raid SSDs when you can absolutely afford to lose everything on the drive at just about any instant.

Don't believe everything you think.

whatever you do, don't buy RAM from anywhere other than a wholesaler. for example, at ibuypower.com they charge over $600 to upgrade to 16MB of RAM that you can get at Newegg for $230. i can understand paying to have someone put something together well for you, but don't get ripped off on something as simple to install as memory.
