No, not something from MXO.

Registry and file hider.
Your spyware/antivirus can't see these items, so can't scan em. Could contain anything at all. They've been around for a while, but it seems to be getting the spotlight due to Sony packing it inside some music CDs, so its worth mentioning.

When users played those CD's, it would install these hidden items into your system to only allow certain amount of copies. There was no EULA anywhere to agree to, and no uninstall information, hence Sony are going to be in major trouble no doubt. They have announced a "patch" that looks just as dodgey, even adding more information.

Anyway, I suggest you have a look around for some rootkit checkers. I'll drop some links if I find some free ones...

Thanks, seems like a good free one, can never be sure how powerful they are until you get a rootkit. I've not had one yet, but I surf very cleanly. Got some pro (paid) ones at work, sorry can't pirate :)

BTW, three lawsuits against Sony regarding this already!
