Furious sploit
« on: October 12, 2005, 10:18:36 am »
Found this out last night and submitted a bug report.  Here's the step-by-step:

1. Set up a looping macro.  A barebones looping "/who" macro is what I used, but I would think any instantly looping macro will suffice.

2. Activate the macro and let it do its thing.

3. Find a hardline and try teleporting to anywhere in the city.

You will notice that your teleportation will fail.  You will remain standing at the hardline.  Any buffs you've activated will be removed as if you had actually teleported.

4. Type /cancel in your chat box to cancel the looping macro.

Your teleportation will kick in and send you to the hardline you selected moments ago.

No big deal, right?  Well head to Mara and activate the looping macro.  Then run to Mara C while there's lots of PvP going on.  Run through the fighting (as best you can), target the hardline and try teleporting.  Everyone around you will freeze in place.  Any emotes like "/dance" will loop.  Anyone who was running will continue to run forever.  Any hacking animations will run their course.

The downside is while this is happening, you can't talk to anyone or interact with anything.  All you can do is run around.  No jumping, no emotes.

Also, if you do this at an unpopulated area, and then begin to run around, the game will be completely devoid of other players.  Do it at Mara NE and then run to Central.  Nobody will be there except the vendors.  But as soon as you type "/cancel", you will be transported to your previously selected hardline.

I had fun with this for a while, but it got boring pretty fast.  I have yet to hear back from the SOE support team.

Seems useless as far as a strategy goes, which is a good thing. Interesting find.

Can the people in Mara C see you? (So extra sneak) Can you still hack with the macro looping? Can you hack the people that are in Mara C even when you cant see them?

Do NPCs attack you still?

It is essentially useless.  Just a weird freezing of the game in between instances on the server.

You can't attack people and they can't attack you.  I noticed that if you lose a bit of health before you activate the bug, then your health will not regenerate until you /cancel.

I'm not sure if other people can still see you.  If they can, they can't attack you.  I stood in the middle of a crowd of reds during PvP in Mara with the bug activated and didn't get attacked.  I couldn't see any of them talking and they apparently couldn't read anything I was typing.  I didn't think to try sending tells or typing in faction chat.

I may do a little more extensive testing tonight if anyone would be willing to help.

This occurs because you are temporarily disconnected to the server running the area you are currently in.  You stil see the characters on the screen because they've been cached onto your local machine.

Yotogi's right.

I tried different things like duplicating $info, increasing stats, etc. I couldn't find use for it.

So in essence, though you can't see the NPCs they're likely beating you to death while you stand around at the server side, until you hit /cancel and die...?

From what I understand, once you activate the bug, you are no longer in the area.  You're still in-game, but you're in a sort of limbo.  (Mobil Ave. anyone?)  It appears to you that you are still walking around, but to all the other players you're gone.

Once you hit /cancel, you will be teleported to whatever hardline you selected in order to activate the bug.

Hmm maybe it clips you out of the main area like that old sit/sit bug.  Guess it's no good if you can't actually interact with anything :D

My guess is that its a glitch with the system... you really are transported to whatever hardline you selected, though while in the 'loading screen' basically, you freeze. You stay in 'limbo' as Manic put it until you cancel the loop, thereby unfreezing your character and being dropped at the hardline you selected. Its probably just a glitch with your system more than the server, and the game continues as normal, thus you can still walk around, until you cancel the macro, which resumes the connection and transports you. Or probably something close, intersting in theory but as Fuse said, essentialy useless.

If this game had a large area to canvas such as WoW, it would be a great way to scout... Perhaps when they bring more areas into the game this will be useful.
