I was a Leap early adopter. Bought mine release week and have been using it ever since.
My take on the Leap is that the sensor is at a more advanced state than the humans trying to use it. Wait what? Yeah.. let it sink in. The sensor can track your fingers and gestures better than you can repeatably make them. You don't have the stability of a desktop to rest your hand on like the mouse. You don't have a palm rest like a keyboard. You're in free space and that gives the user some very cool options and some very challenging options. Add this free space issue to the fact that most gestures are not standardized which leads to confusion between apps. Some apps have very intuitive gestures and others seem like they were dreamed up by brain damaged aliens with 12 fingers. All that said, you can do a lot of really fun and neat things with the Leap. It's a natural extension to VR and for now I think it's the best gesture tracking there is on the market. ~M 5

Details hmm?
Well the new space fight xpac is certainly fun. Space dogfighting, putting your ship together, picking components, crew, role. I sorta enjoy it. If anyone is interested in more SWTOR news, events, and stuff just drop me or Adam a PM. Adam and I also made a small expansion move and the Furious Angels now have a presence on more than one server. If you're interested in what life would be like on a high population PvE server (that still has great PvP just not open world) come check out the Harbinger PvE West Coast for a HUGE upgrade in community. Again, PM Adam or myself for details. 7
VR Gaming / Discussion with a Rifter« on: April 16, 2014, 02:48:13 am »
Wanted to share a quick story about a discussion I had with a guy I ran into the other night while I was out and about.
I see this guy and his kid walking about looking at mobile phones and he's wearing Google Glass. Being the techie nerd I am, I walk up and ask him about his experiences with Glass. He enjoys it and all that but we get to talking about the Rift. Turns out, he works for some media company as an IT nerd and one of their concept ideas is Rift enabled live stream concerts. Basically the concept is they deploy a few CCD camera arrays that are very small at locations around and on the stage during live performances. They're very small (small tripod sized) and the camera array is supposed to capture nearly everything in a 360 degree field of view with +/- 90 degrees vertical. They stream all these images, sync them somehow, and produce a Riftable concert experience so that nerds like us could sit at home and watch a concert in London and get a full view of all the action. Add the music and it's like you're almost there. Apparently the CCD camera tech they're using has the ability to zoom as well on demand so you could in theory zoom in on the drummer and watch him play during your favorite song. It's still in the early stages but he was really optimistic about it. Mind = Blown. Suddenly the raging capitalist in me starts to think of how many tickets you could sell to anyone, anywhere in the world so long as they had a Rift and headphones. You could almost get the same concert experience (sans that pot smoking drunk two rows in front of you) and never have to leave your house. After he told me the story and how excited he was I asked him if they ever thought about pitching to the NFL or maybe UFC for fight nights. His answer was vague but he said that's a really good idea. I'm sure you all have some thoughts. Feel free to comment as I'd love to hear them. 8

Reasonably fun in short doses when combined with other social activities so far. I've yet to meet up and do a team type event. Anyone have experiences from those that can share?

Off Topic / Re: Ingress: The Game« on: January 02, 2014, 07:44:59 pm »I was skeptical and was thinking the same thing earlier on, but portals are public and typically some kind of civil works building. Parks, firehouses, statues, museums, that sort of thing. I haven't seen a portal pop up on a Starbucks or McDonalds, yet. The points where the hackable nodes are located (at least in my area) are very close to a variety of businesses but I don't think any money is being exchanged just yet. On a total side note, I turned the app on this afternoon while running errands and suddenly my day took on a new little twist playing and doing what I set out to do. As a total surprise, I found a few new things/places to eat/bars/post office branch playing the game and managed to walk a surprising distance while doing it all. Tricksie Gooogle bastards made my afternoon of getting errands done fun AND helped me to discover new stuff. |
